Rich Eisen said last night on NFL TA that Rock Cartwright said it was like a slap in the face. I think he is taking this way to personal. Players are quick to point out that this is a buisness first when they are negotiating a contract but they expect some kind of loyalty when it comes to aquiring new talent.
C'mon now, how would you feel in the same situation?
I can definitely understand that some guys are a little irked right now. Trust me though, they will fall in line or they'll be out of here. Once the dust settles and everyone understands their new role, things will be fine.
I think it's very unrealistic of us to expect guys to just take this in stride and not be upset, at least initially. If things don't calm down eventually, then I would have a problem with things. But right now these guys are justified in being pissed.
MonkFan4Life 08-24-2006, 09:19 AM I think the only guy with a legitimate beef here is Mike Sellars. He was given a more expanded role in the offense this year and now that T.J. Duckett now named Clubber Lang (credit to TheMalcolmConnection) is here he takes touches away from him. I think putting Clubber and Sellars in the backfield together will cause all kinds of problems for opposing defenses. Betts and Cartwright should relax but I understand where they may feel a little low because they "thought" they were the next in line. I say to them I was at the Jets game, you guys are not the next in line. If there is a spot that should be improved you best fix it now. I didn't see Betts and Cartwright talking about how they felt bad for Thrash and Jacobs when Lloyd and Randel El were brought in. Calm down Rock, be a monster on Special Teams so Brian Baldinger can talk about your name every 5 min. Are the Skins good enough now that we don't have to sit through his horrible commentary this year ?
Eff this whining and complaining. Betts will be traded to the Jets, I picked him up on my Fantasy Team as insurance so we'll see what that prick does for me when he gets his shot. I hope they run a formation with Portis, Duckett, and Sellars in the backfield at the same time ! Man, I can't wait !
jbcjr14 08-24-2006, 09:21 AM So would you go out on a limb and say that your prediction for TJ is pain?
He kind of DOES look like Clubber Lang.
Yes...lmfao!
Longtimefan 08-24-2006, 09:27 AM very selfish if you ask me. not exactly what gibbs is looking for in a player. cartwright was all about being a "team player' last season. oh how quickly attitudes change.
This type attitude is common in situations like this because guys feel the addition will be a subtraction for their ability to showcase their talents. However, like Matty said earlier, they will fall in line once the dust clears.

I think most of us would feel this way, I know I would. If management brought in a new young guy from another company, gave him the new mop and said, "here, this guy is here to help you out" when I thought I was cleaning the floors just fine on my own, I would be upset too.
The difference is, I would have kept my mouth shut in front of the media.
Defensewins 08-24-2006, 09:44 AM Rock should be smarter than that, keep his mouth shut and let his play on the field take care of this. Talking about team issues in the press is a quick way to get your ass cut!
reidskind 08-24-2006, 09:47 AM Tj is garbage to me so I don't think he's a threat
RiggoRules 08-24-2006, 10:04 AM Portis is absolutely furious about TJ being here. He had drafted himself in the first round for his fantasy team and now his entire fantasy team is shot.
Are you kidding? Portis has got to be thrilled about all of these off season offensive additions.
For Rock, Betts, Nemo, etc., it's a little stressful. I'm sure feelings are hurt. Too effing bad. This isn't a feel good social club. Quit whining like a 4 year old to the press, man up or get ready to play for the Jets.
scowan 08-24-2006, 10:05 AM Guys, the NFL Insider that Rich Eisen talks to on his show Adam Sheffied (misspelled name) said this morning that he sat down with Portis in his back yard the other day and Portis said he is not rushing back from this injury and Adam felt like that meant he would be missing the Monday night opener against the Vikings. T.J. is insurance for all of our RB injuries. Portis is hurt and Betts can't stay on the field, and Gibbs does not want to open the season with Rock in the backfield. MAN, I hope Portis starts against the Vikes.
TheMalcolmConnection 08-24-2006, 10:11 AM Gibbs said Portis was ahead of schedule in his rehab. You'd think that would mean he would play in the opener.
On the other hand, it could also mean that they'll give him an extra week of rest because I think Duckett can handle the Vikes.
