Just for the record, the word "thug" originates from India. Here is its origin information from this site: BBC - Religion & Ethics - Thugs (http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/hinduism/features/thugs/)

The English word thug, meaning a violent criminal, comes from the Hindi word thag (and originally from the Sanskrit word sthaga), meaning a thief or villain.

The original Thugs were bands of roving criminals in India who strangled and robbed travellers. Originally these gangs committed murder following precise religious rites to honour Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction.
The crime was known as Thuggee, and although it involved a Hindu goddess, there were Muslim Thugs as well.

In the 19th century Thugs were strangling 40,000 people a year but by then many cases of Thuggee were straightforward robbery with no religious significance.

Looks like the hip-hop culture took it on as their own but I can remember that a thug was just any hoodlum black/white, Jew/Gentile.
In my book Romanowski is a classic thug.

I RARELY pull the race card, and this is going to sound VERY wewhite3 of me, but if this guy were white, would you call him a thug?

I've just noticed that over the years and just wanted to bring it up today.

Good call on the race card but I would call him a criminal and if he was white perhaps it would be a wanna be thug. Thank you Joe Gibbs for seeing that this guy is piece of work. I was so high on him before the draft and upset that we didn't get him. This is one of the many reasons why I make it a point to not question Joe ever.

Whats the big deal. I be ticked and yelling if I thought some girl had set me up to get my wallet stollen. The cops did not investigate that but arrested him when he would not stop yelling. What would you do say OK officer someone took my wallet but thats OK. I won't be upset and you guys have a nice day. I'll be on my way its only money and all my credit cards. Night Night Officers and thanks for all of your hard work!
No, being polite to the police won't get you anywhere, it's much better to yell and rant until *you* are the one that gets arrested. That's much more effective and smart. [/sarcasm]

How about calmly explaining why you are upset, maybe then they will actually help you. There is plenty of room between being belligerent and being the pushover described by firstdown. And for those who say "But he was drunk!!!1!",that's why getting drunk in public, especially as a celebrity, is a bad idea. Being drunk doesn't give anyone the right to act like an ass, just extra ability.

I thought everyone knew only black people can be labeled "Thug" and the word "Punk" is reserved for whitey a.k.a. "The Man."

I don't want to belabor the point. But growing up in D.C. during the 80s I think I had a pretty good grasp, however skewed it was, and perception on what certain people are/were referred to and so forth. Again, I'm basing this on my own personal experience. Most of you that know me, would probably say 12th is as cool as they come:)

I don't think I've ever referred to a white guy as a thug here or anywhere else. I'm just speaking for myself here. Also, generally speaking it is reserved for African American athletes, and sometimes, African Americans in general. I didn't make the rules, I just know what I've seen and heard over the years.

Dave Chappelle kind of touched on this in one of his brialliant comedic moments.

Thug (hip hop slang) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thug_%28hip_hop_slang%29)

I'm guessing it's because of all the rap lyrics.

Stop right there, before you expose more of your ignorance. "I'm guessing it's because of all the rap lyrics" that phrase can never be mentioned again, and I must direct you to the temple, Temple of Hip Hop - The Hip Hop Declaration Peace (http://templeofhiphop.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=64&Itemid=39)

Have a seat and take a lesson. Class is in session so you can stop guessing.

Definition of thug: A brutal ruffian or ganster.

I see no reference to a black man in that definition. It is the ACTIONS of the player that make him a thug, not his skin color.

Sheesh.
