holmester 05-19-2007, 02:57 AM I don't like the sound of that..
WOW. This is worthy of its own thread and i hope the moderators get a hold of it. This honestly makes me feel sick because to be honest CP was probaly my favorite skin. I mean the only reason Taylor wasn't was because of his immaturity but now that he's grown i dont even know what to say. I am honestly speachless. WTF is Portis thinkin. I'm not tryin to seem preechy but im in the boat with Gibbs where I like to see players with good values and good morals. The fact that Portis is making light of this dog situation is a joke. You can put me on the record right here and mark this down, if there is not a good explanation for these comment's I want Portis traded, as much as I loved him there is no room for this. I expect the foot to come down hard and soon. MODERATORS if this is true try to make as much impat as possible. Portis is a great player no doubt but I feel if were gonna go to the show with gibbs it's gonna take character and the shit aint helpin. I want some light on this and i want it soon.
holmester 05-19-2007, 03:07 AM I should have mentioned that this could all be bullshit(and i hope it is). But until I hear otherwise I will defend my previous statements.
GMScud 05-19-2007, 04:00 AM He likes to goof around with the media, but I don't think he was kidding about this. Dammit Clinton. This isn't a joke. Vick is on the verge of being in deep, felony shit. And having our star tailback back him up, joking or not, is bad news. Man, my best friend is a dog lover and Skins hater. I'm never gonna hear the end of this....
Oakland Red 05-19-2007, 04:03 AM The first and main thing that I think Clinton was doing is taking the chance, since he was in the Virginia Beach area, to defend a fellow football player who is from that area, and who has been much maligned.
What the PFW article does is insinuate in libelous fashion that Portis might have participated in such events in the past, and purposefully tries to stir up hostility against him. The article is a crock; yellow journalism.
As far as dog fighting, to me there is a cultural divide here. Dog fights may well be common in the rural South as Clinton says. People may view them as a tolerated norm. They aren't good, but I can see how if you grow up with them that you could be desensitized to seeing them as a bad thing.
I recently saw a movie about slaughterhouses and I can say that what the meat industry, and also what the dairy and chicken industries, do to animals is not a good thing either. I'm not a fan of what boxing, ultimate fighting or a lot of things do to people either.
I think it's good that there is this public discussion going on about the issue, because it will cause people to reflect and hopefully reconsider participating in this practice.
It's no big deal to me at all and I don't think any less of Clinton just because he thinks something that differs from me. He doesn't participate in these kind of events himself.
I think we all are best when we recognize that there are different cultural norms and try to tolerate each other's views and work toward common ground.
Luxorreb 05-19-2007, 04:09 AM If this is true, then Skins and NFL should look further into the dog fighting thing. These millionaires don't need to be 'feeling gangsta' fighting dogs. And if ya gonna fight dogs goto a country where its ok. No reason a player in his prime should sacrifice his potential in Hall of Fame/ NFL folklore history. Quite an incredible oppurtunity to be a player in the NFL. The full wrath of the law should come down on Vick and/or Portis or anyone involved an such an illegal activity.
KLHJ2 05-19-2007, 08:02 AM Look, who gives a shit if ther are dog fighting rings. There are human fighting rings too. Most people refer to it as boxing. But, there are many other hand to hand sports that go to the death that are not illegal. Who is it to say that it is wright or wrong. Iyou stop dog fighting, then you have to stop boxing. Are we not more important than the animals?
Alot of people would rebute that animals being raised and trained to fight is inhumane What about the peolpe that were brought up on fighting? Is that humane? The point that I am trying to put across is that you cannot say that it is ok for a person to compete in a fight while it is not ok for any other animal. If they want to criminalize dog fighting, then human fighting should be just as illegal.
I do not like boxing or any other martial art, nor am I an animal lover. I just believe that what is fair, is fair across the board.
EARTHQUAKE2689 05-19-2007, 08:09 AM think Vick will feel Godell's wrath?
maybe but portis also said on ballers on bet last night that we would be in the nfc championship game at least
Daseal 05-19-2007, 08:24 AM If you want to compare humans to animals, SSG. Isn't that whole "It's X's property" the same type of bullshit people used to defend slavery? He can kill him, that's his slave.
It's ridiculous to say that this should be equated to boxing. First of all, boxers at any time can say stop, they get paid a ton of money, and have the best doctors in the world able to help them out. It's also a conscious decision to fight. These dogs are being forced to fight and often both end up dying in hideous conditions. If they find out that Vick has been a part of this (rumors of dog fighting and Vick go back to his days at Tech at least) he should be banned from the NFL.

Humans choose to pursue careers in fighting, dogs do not. Also, what to the death hand sports are you referring to that are legal? Do you live in a mountain temple in Asia?
The suggestion that criminalizing dog fighting should necessitate doing the same for human fighting is beyond insipid.
EARTHQUAKE2689 05-19-2007, 08:33 AM oh oh dont like where this is going
