CP really should have kept his thoughts to himself on this one. Nothing positive can come from his comments. Nothing.

I must admit, I have been angling several different arguements to rebutt the negative sentiment for CP's comments....................I can't..BIG mistake on his part.

Look, who gives a shit if ther are dog fighting rings. There are human fighting rings too. Most people refer to it as boxing. But, there are many other hand to hand sports that go to the death that are not illegal. Who is it to say that it is wright or wrong. Iyou stop dog fighting, then you have to stop boxing. Are we not more important than the animals?

Alot of people would rebute that animals being raised and trained to fight is inhumane What about the peolpe that were brought up on fighting? Is that humane? The point that I am trying to put across is that you cannot say that it is ok for a person to compete in a fight while it is not ok for any other animal. If they want to criminalize dog fighting, then human fighting should be just as illegal.

I do not like boxing or any other martial art, nor am I an animal lover. I just believe that what is fair, is fair across the board.

Three problems here.

1. Fighting dogs can get loose and hurt or kills humans. How many times has this happened?

2. According to the police report, all of the dogs were were not being treated very well. They were not being fed. So that's f--ked up.

3. If you were Arthur Blank would you want the face of your organization involved in this?

The bottom line is many people are dog owners and look at this and simply are repulsed. And I bet many of those people are Falcon season ticket holders that help pay Mick Vick's huge salary. So CP and yourself may not think it's a big deal but the majority of the public does.

Hmmm, really? Being implicated in a large scale dog fighting operation, intentionally giving an STD to someone, and flipping off kids at the end of a game in your own home stadium........what exactly does someone have to do to be considered a bad guy? Michael Vick is a piece of garbage, pure and simple.

Agreed 100%. And I have definitely lost respect for Portis. If Portis wanted to defend Vick from the media, he could have taken the route Chris Samuels did and basically say that people should reserve judgement until all the facts come out and the legal proceedings are done.

Again for those of you who don't care about dogfighting, it is a FELONY for a reason. It is extremely creul and inhumane.

If the issue is as cut and dry as a criminal act, then I'd estimate about 90% of Warpath members are "horrible people". I know it's impossible for some people to see the grey area with this issue, but if you come from a community where this type of activity is prevalent, you'll probably be more accepting of it than a kid from the northern suberbs.

And it's not like they're making labs and poodles fight to the death. Pit bulls have been bred to fight and kill animals for hundreds of years. I have a friend that owns a non fighting Pit that seems nice, just like any other dog, but if you look at it the wrong way or stutter step when you walk by it, it turns into a friggin monster. What's the purpose of owning a "pet" like that?

I think a lot of people are missing the point re: anti-dog fighting. And before you start in, I am not a big dog fan and I consider them the same as all domesticated animals...useful to humans, but not equivalent. Animals shouldn't be abused, but I am not going to shed a tear when they die or are killed for whatever reason.

That said, the single biggest problem with breeding and fighting dogs is not the gambling or the animal abuse (both are bad, but don't harm anyone other than the people and animals directly involved). The reason this acitivity is illegal is that you are introducing viscous, genetically manipulated killing machines in and around people. Any animal that is bred and trained to kill other animals is a direct threat to humans, particularly children.

When I was in 3rd grade I watched a 10 year old kid in my neighborhood get his face torn off by a loose german shepard that had been trained to be a fighter. You CANNOT have these animals in close proximity to people, just as you can't own a tiger, lion, wolf, or any other large predator without specialized permits. Anyone who keeps these animals should be prosecuted to the fullest extent the law allows for endangering society in general, and that include Vick for allowing it to happen on his property.

So Portis isn't bashing Vick for his alleged knowledge of dog fighting... who the hell cares?! Portis grew up in an area where he witnessed dog fighting from a young age, and it was apparently accepted in the community. What is he supposed to say? He doesn't care that Vick might be involved in dog fighting, but he should lie and say that he does care?

First of all, the issue is not that Portis chose not to bash Vick........he actually came to his defense and said that even if he was engaged in this illegal felonious activity, he doesn't see it as a big deal and people should mind their own business.

Second, growing up in an area where you witness a particular illegal activity being prevalent does not make the illegal activity any less illegal or the behavior any less disgusting. By your reasoning, it would be appropriate to support a white supremacist's actions because you grew up in an area where everyone was a member of the kkk. Or, it would be appropriate to condone Michael Irvin's use of crack/cocaine because where you grew up there was a crack whore on every corner. After all, shouldn't we just turn a blind eye to criminals and "mind our own business?" The position is preposterous.

Third, regarding the question of what should he say?: Nothing, would be a good start. "No comment" comes to mind. "I'm reserving judgment" would be ok with me. Pretty much anything except for, "big deal, so someone is treating animals with inhuman (in every sense of that word) and unadulterated cruelty......so what if it's a felony......so some dogs are being tortured and killed.........so what if the community is being put at risk........mind your own business and let's let the criminals in our society do what they want." Plain and simple, Portis's statements were stupid and ill-advised.
