Are We Being Too Hard on Brandon Lloyd?irish 09-12-2007, 08:16 AM BL stinks. He was a bad pick up by the skins. EternalEnigma21 09-12-2007, 09:08 AM well its done... i just traded him off of my madden franchise for devin hester... MTK 09-12-2007, 09:10 AM Until he proves us wrong, which he hasn't in 17 regular season games now as a Redskin, he's garbage. Those waiting for his magical breakout better be prepared to wait a long time. GTripp0012 09-12-2007, 09:20 AM I for one, think we are being FAR too hard on him. He's under an EXTRA critical eye because of what happened last year. Let's all ALSO remember that last year there wasn't a single receiver who did well, PERIOD. People are too concerned with regurgitating all the "drops" he had last year. If he had so many drops, I'd LOVE to know what games because in my recollection he caught EVERYTHING thrown his way. He's starting to get the "Carlos Rogers" treatment where everyone just assumes he's bad because someone else said it.If you guys paid me $30 million over seven years to post on the Warpath, with $10 mil guarenteed, and I turned out to be a lazy and nonsensical member...I'd hope you all would be ultra critical of me too. GTripp0012 09-12-2007, 09:28 AM The fact is, he's just as good here as he was in San Francisco. It's just the chemistry is different here and nobody's giving him a look or making him a first option. In SF, he was the looked for receiver. Here, he's got two great receivers ahead of him and a third receiver who's also probably better than he is.This is true, but I don't think thats a defense of Lloyd. If anything, this is one of the biggest criticisms against him. If we brought him in with the idea that he wouldn't improve his production at all, the guy who made that move needs to be fired. It makes sense that we brought him in expecting him to break out, and got exactly what we had seen in SF. Still a bad move, but at least the intent was in the right place. wushawn 09-12-2007, 09:29 AM Not at all. Hes being paid starter money and not even producing as a number 3. I understand we have been inconsistant at the QB postion, but when given the opprotunity..ie sunday, he shows no effort. I mean, its not his fault we paid him so much money, but at the same time when you sign that contract you have to take everything that comes with it, including the fans being hard on him, am i wrong? Schneed10 09-12-2007, 09:48 AM Sure, I guess I'm just saying that it seems pretty clear that Campbell was looking for Cooley, Moss, and ARE and Lloyd is really the last option. After the perception (deserved or otherwise) that he didn't make the effort to go up and get that INT/pass, why would Campbell look his way again? If anything, JC is going to start throwing the ball away rather than putting it up there for the Amazing Circus Catch Lloyd to go get it. And really, when you get right down to it, isn't that what this guy's modus operandi was supposed to be? He's not the fastest, known to be a sloppy route runner and fairly lazy in terms of professionalism, but hey, he can go make highlight reel catches... Except that he isn't doing that. And now he's caught in a negative spiral where he's lost the confidence of coaches and JC, and knows he isn't going to get the ball, so I can pretty much guarantee you he isn't going to be out there giving it his all. Think back to any time you've shot hoops with a guy who was fire and forget and would never pass. Did you hustle your ass down the court on every rebound after the 25th shot he took, or were you walking up the court? Doesn't matter if it turns out you really just sucked or not, if you don't think you're going to get a chance, you won't hustle. And coaches see you're not hustling, you don't get any more chances. The only way this cycle gets broken is if a guy has a strong work ethic, and I just don't see that in Lloyd. Tremendous post on human nature. Very well said. Bill B 09-12-2007, 11:13 AM I will go on record, in this very thread. Mods, feel free to archive it. If Brandon Lloyd has any more than 600 receiving yards on the season, I'll donate $100 to the site. 600 yards would actually be a major improvement for him. But it's still CRAZY disappointing for someone with a $30 million contract and was signed to be the #2. I'll still root for him to get to 600, for a few reasons. The most obvious being it'd help the Redskins, but also, $100 would go nicely towards a new server for these parts. But man, I'll be AMAZED if that happens. The guy sucks, and you can tell the coaches can't stand him. Schneed - you need to lower the yards from 600 to 400 to make it more of a competitive bet - to expect Llyod to more than double his production is a lot to ask! DGreene28 09-12-2007, 11:49 AM I just watched the play in question on tape about 10 times frame by frame... Brandon gave 100% effort to get the ball. He also had both of his hands on the ball and almost made a really nice catch. Unfortunately the ball went through his hands and basically rested on the DB's facemask and allowed him to make the INT. After the INT Lloyd did not go all out however, could have been becausee the phins safety would have blocked him budw38 09-12-2007, 12:47 PM We're getting way too caught up in this argument over Lloyd's effort on the end zone interception. To me, that's just a small piece of the puzzle. The bottom line, the guy had one catch for five yards on Sunday. This after last year doing jack squat last year. Randle El struggled last year, and was brought into this offense at the same time as Lloyd, but he seemed to have caught on just fine on Sunday, putting up 5 catches for 108 yards (if you remove the flukey hail mary). What's Lloyd's excuse? And Daseal, don't give me this crap about him not getting looks. The reason Randle El got the looks is because he ran very precise routes, and JC had confidence he'd be where he was supposed to be. 90% of a WRs job is getting open, making the catch is only 10% of the work. Lloyd just doesn't get open because he doesn't work hard enough to master the playbook, he could care less about learning the intracacies of route-running because all he wants to do is burn dudes deep. I mean at what point can we just call a spade a spade. If it quacks, it's a duck. Not a hen, not a rooster, not a swan... it's a friggin duck people. Same damn thing happened with Ramsey, and it's happening with Lloyd. People see flashes every now and then, so they think if we just give him more looks, or if we just give him a chance, he'll be OK. No. He sucks. It's not that hard to make the judgment. He's a piece of shit because of his poor work ethic, and it's not going to get markedly better. Book it. I love they way you word that ! If he were getting open JC would throw him the ball |
