724Skinsfan 12-07-2007, 08:07 AM I mentioned a few weeks back in other threads that I wanted to see if Todd Collins or Mark Brunell could execute this offense better than Jason Campbell. After last night, I got the feeling that Todd could. I noticed this about him. He gets rid of the ball way quicker than JC. On that Ladell Betts TD, there's no way JC unloads the ball that quickly and that accurately. Had he still been in, that probably would've been a sack, maybe fumble, and at best we're settling for 3. Todd Collins put the nail in the coffin, which is what we've been waiting for JC to do all season. Hopefully watching TC come in and run this O like he'd been doing it all season served Campbell well.
Yep, if we keep Saunders offense in place for the future then I most definitely think this game will benefit Campell's development.
Southpaw 12-07-2007, 08:32 AM Some people actually seem to believe that Todd Collins is the answer at quarterback for this team. What I'd like to know from those people is, if Collins is truly "Tom Brady", or "should have been the starter all season", what should Washington do as a team, going forward?
I honestly want to know how Washington build's a team around a 36 year old quarterback, that has never been good enough to start in his 10+ year career? Personally, I think he looks like an old Chad Pennington. Saying he's "accurate" is a nice way of saying he has no arm strength, and he's as about as mobile as a statue.
I'd like to hear a little more than a knee jerk "OMg!! ToDd CoLlinZZzz!!" type reaction.
SouperMeister 12-07-2007, 08:35 AM Yep, if we keep Saunders offense in place for the future then I most definitely think this game will benefit Campell's development. While Campbell has improved his decision making over last season, Collins really demonstrated how this offense can look with even quicker decision making. I was astonished at how Collins was able to easily complete passes to tight spaces with far less velocity on the ball. In the Saunders system, it's clearly about making your read, and getting the ball out of your hand quickly. Jason should study Collins's play yesterday, and try to speed up his reads/delivery.

Did he really complete passes in tight spaces though? I do agree that his timing is a bit better within Saunders' system than Campbell's at the moment, but it looked like most of his passes were to wide open receiver.
BleedBurgundy 12-07-2007, 08:47 AM There is definitely a huge drop off in how much zip he puts on his passes compared to Campbell. He's a reliable back up and if there's any hope of making the playoffs, he's going to have to come through for us...
Bstanley 12-07-2007, 08:58 AM He tossed a bunch of lollipops to WIDE open receivers. He had a good game, but I'd like to see a repeat performance before I jump on his junk.
Your wrong go back and watch the game again. :headbange
Bstanley 12-07-2007, 09:01 AM The thing is JC is a better over all athlete, But man TC knows this offense like no other I'm hope TC will Finnish out the year as the starter so JC can see how to really run this thing.

The only substantial pass where the receiver wasn't wide open was to Yoder, which was a good toss. Other than that, receivers were in spaces with no one around them. Whether it's a product of the Bears terrible coverage, or Collins knowing Saunders' system remains to be seen, but the Collins backers will be in for a shock if they think the quarterback can toss meatballs around every week.
Monkeydad 12-07-2007, 09:06 AM Let me add a little of the English language to this thread...
Collins did so well because he had ALL day to throw. His line and Portis did an incredible job of protecting him. Too bad they didn't do that for Campbell though.
When he entered the game, I was scared and actually wishing Brunell was in the game instead, but Todd did well. He surprised me. Hopefully this was not a one-time deal, because with some luck we CAN still make the playoffs.

If Collins was Tom Brady, the Bills would have 4 Super Bowl titles and he wouldn't be our backup.
Campbell is also no Patrick Ramsey who will lose his job to an old QB from an injury, no matter how well Collins plays for the remainder of the season. Campbell opens up our passing game like we have not seen a QB do since Rypien. He will be back next season, with a bunch of 300-yard passing games under his belt and 12 more games than the beginning of 2007. He'll be better next year than this year, you could see him growing and maturing as a QB (except for the fumbling) every game.
