He's not mine:

#1 - The players, Gibbs and other coaches support and endorse him..

#2 - A new coach will not have the ability to change the roster for another 3 years at least. The cap situation will make it too difficult. The new coach will, for the most part, have to sink or swim for the next three years with the players already on the roster. See this thread for more:

http://www.redskinswarpath.com/locker-room/22139-coach-selection-the-cap-rebuilding.html

#3 - Can we please keep Jason Campbell in the same offensive system? Note that every time the team has gone with a new system, the year after the change resulted in 5-11 season (2004) and a 6-10 season (2006). After being in a system for a year, the team went to the playoffs in each subsequent season.

#4 - Getting rid of Gregg will mean you lose Saunders, Jerry Gray, and possibly Joe Bugel. I can't seen any scenario in which the new staff is comprised of better coaching minds than the one we've got right now. It's not all about the head coaches, it's about the assistants too.

#5 - Gregg felt the loss of Sean Taylor just as much as anyone on the team. He'll be in a position to relate to the players on a personal level. Chemistry between coaches and players cannot possibly be any better than with GW.

Ok, won't #2 also occur if Williams is the coach? For #3 Campbell played in a West Coast offense before and had his best collegiate season. It's not like he's having to learn a new sport. #4 Saunders was gone anyways so that's moot. So you believe we have the best staff of assistant coaches in the NFL? #5 I can't really debate, but I don't know how much that's gonna impact us on a 3rd and 13 at the 45 yard line in late November at Dallas..

I'm still not sure how any of those things make him the sure fire lock to be the coach to lead us for the near and far future.

Shhh, don't say that our D was ranked in the top ten this year if this happened last year people would be screaming anyone but GW. Remember those threads about how GW was the problem and his players where revolting against him. Yes, the same GW.

The exact point I made in another thread.. It's amazing how short people's memory is.

I tell you what I don't get - why is that folks are considered to be freaking out because they don't want Fassel as a head coach?

As someone said earlier, Williams is the "clear best choice."

I don't get it either. It's not a result of any dislike for Fassel or any other candidate Snyder choses, it's rather that as you concluded, many feel Williams is the best choice for now. I will support whoever the new coach may be because I'm a fan of the team.

It's pretty clear Snyder doesn't care at all. I'm a little mystified why you and the other mods are so surprised or disagree with the outrage, though.

The only conclusion I can reach is that you guys pretty much universally support whatever Snyder decides to do, beyond any loyalty to coaches or the team's overall legacy and history.

Frankly sometimes I think you guys really don't give enough credit to Skins fans, especially those on this board who disagree, many of whom have proven that they aren't just screaming hordes who want a win no matter what.

If this is the place for "The Knowledgeable Fan" why do you guys continue to speak condescendingly to people who don't just fall in line with whatever decree is handed down from Redskins Park?

If Snyder didn't care, Mark Shapiro would add head coach to his Six Flags responsibilities.

Look, the 12thMans and Schneeds of this site who present valid arguments about their concerns-I have the utmost respect for them. Others who say stupid shit like "Danny needs to sell the team" "I'm getting rid of all my Redskins stuff" "I'll never watch another game" and so on-those people deserve to be mocked, ridiculed, and scorned. To the fullest extent. They don't need my respect of course, but if they're expecting it then they're certainly not going to get it with posts like that.

I think I've been pretty clear in saying Fassel is not my top choice. Neither is Williams really.

But what I've been saying (and I think others as well) is that a) no decision has been officially made so quit crying and b) why can't we see how everything plays out first (staff, roster) and make a more informed decision maybe sometime in the spring?

On another note. When I hear the Sean Taylor argument, while I understand it sometimes I can't help but relate it to when people ask "Why Giuliani?" and the answer is just "9/11"

Bloomberg.com: North American (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601079&sid=az63IDqm0Iec&refer=home)

I just found this. If Gregg Williams couldn't get the job with four 10 hour interviews, i dont know what to say. I didnt know we were considering Fassel before Gibbs came back.

What did you just find?

From JLC:

"All of my reporting leads to this trio topping the coaching staff.

Jim Fassel is expected to be named head coach, and the hold up is negotiations with the Ravens regarding Rex Ryan. As I previously reported, contrary to other reports, the Ravens retain Ryan's coordinator rights and can block a lateral move. They appear to be doing that. The sides may reach an agreement, but Ravens ownership badly wants to keep Ryan, who the players love. Fassel and Ryan spoke as recently as last night sources said and Ryan interviewed with Snyder Sunday night, according to sources.

Zorn, as we were the first to report, interviewed for the offensive coordinator job. He is set to depart around 5:40 and if all goes well he would be the leading candidate to replace Al Saunders (with whatever fancy title they want to use).

Everyone is waiting to hammer the contract details out but barring a last second change of heart, disaster, whatever, this is how it's shaping up."

THis is going to cost us dearly. Good thing we stock up on draft picks (heavy sarcasm)

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggghhh.

Please don't give away any first day picks. Maybe a third I can deal with, but anything more I don't know if I can handle it.

I simply do not understand our fanbase anymore...
In years we had everything figured out and thought we were concrete GUARENTEED to go 11-5, 12-4, etc... we go 6-10 or 7-9 and fall on our faces.

LET'S PLEASE WAIT AND SEE!!! If JF becomes Coach Fassell to us - so be it, IT IS WHAT IT IS! He has my supports, should have yours and I will bet the mortgage if we started 3-0 you would ALL be all over his johnson... (so to speak).

The earth will still rotate after this is announced, if it is - someone will still die of hunger, babies will continue to be born and deaths will happen... life moves on, the Redskins move on and you too Fan's should show your belief in this franchise and move on.

HAIL!!!

Best statement of this thread!

It is impossible to replace a HOF Coach with anything nearly identical.

(There are no other Active HOF Coaches!)

Hail!

It's both. The whole thing is just rubbing folks the wrong way. Fassel is perceived to be an outsider. And there's something about what the Skins endured this season that transcends business.

I don't care how many stats people post about Fassel's career, there's nothing...nothing...that blows me away about this guy. It's almost like Snyder..and I'm not a Snyder basher, by the way....is leaving Williams high and dry.

Well put, i felt like we had achieved something special during this crazy season. To hire Fassel is a slap in the face to the entire organization! Fans, players, and coordinators alike. I just gained a lot of respect for Snyder for the way he handled the ST tragedy. I may have given my respect out too easily, if this comes to be true I feel betrayed in the worst way.
