When Boswell speaks, I always listen. He's earned that, for sure.

Still, I wonder about this part

"Some wonder if the Redskins already have burned their bridges with Williams, who specifically came to Washington so he could learn to handle people -- and smooth the edges of his blunt personality -- by exposing himself to Gibbs's influence. If you worked for four years as one of the central architects of a business, yet your boss still needed to interview you four times, including one 10-hour marathon, to make sure you were the right person for the job, would you feel wanted?"

Why aren't we asking how much did he learn in terms of handling people, did he smooth the edges of his blunt personality, what reasons beyond leading a top defense are there for him to think he should feel wanted to lead the entire team, what are Williams' visions for the team anyway? I'm not putting blame on or absolving blame from anyone here, I just find it kind of curious that no one (not Gibbs, not Snyder) ever, in the past four years, said-like Vermiel did with Martz, like Dungy apparently now with Caldwell-this (Williams) is our guy when the time comes.

Not "we're happy with him" or "continuity is key" but something more concrete.

Reportedly, Gibbs has strongly endorsed Williams behind closed doors and not in public because he doesn't want to put additional pressure on Snyder. I've had my reservations about Williams, but 99% if not ALL of us on this site wanted Williams to get the job. Frankly, I'm not sure why people (not you SS or anyone in particular) are backing off their support of Williams and critiquing those who don't like this delay in hiring a coach.

Beyond leaving the current coaches and players in limbo, this delay in hiring a coach is costing us the opportunity to try to hire all the assistants we will need. The best candidates are getting picked off and unless we plan to poach and promote coaches from other teams, I am left to wonder how good any coaching staff we assemble is going to be at this point. Finally, what about offseason planning? The combine is coming up and I don't like the idea of our coaching staff not even being announced until sometime around the Pro Bowl.

I just pray to God that Dan Snyder isn't trying to make a splash by hiring Josh McDaniels.

I like Boswell too but let's face it he's speculating just like the rest of us.

I thought we learned a lot about his personal and leadership skills after Sean was murdered. But I agree we know very little about what his plans would be for the team as a whole.

Unfortunately we also don't REALLY know what Fassel's would be, or anyone else's, really.

Where was that reported? I know that is what a lot of people assume, but I haven't heard or seen that anywhere.

I must fall into the 1% because I'm not sold that GW is the best answer. Maybe he is and maybe he is not. I appreciate them taking time to hire the new staff, and not pull the emotional trigger and crown GW immediately. I say staff, because no matter what happens, not only will we have a new head coach, but we'll have new O and D coordinators, and new assistants too, whether the new head coach is GW, Fassel, or Micky Mouse. Continuity went out the window when Gibbs stepped down.

Everyone talks about keeping consistency, lets assume we keep Williams and Saunders. I think its still goign to be a new offense for Jason Campbell with Gibbs gone. And I hope thats the case, I really want to see Saunders get to call his plays. Yes I know he was calling plays, but the hback, counter tre, things like that were definitly added by Gibbs. This isnt a shot at Gibbs at all, I just want to see Saunders have full control and do what he did in St Louis and for teh Chiefs

The only thing I didn't like about Bos' article is that he assumes that the 4 interviews were just 'interviews' when in all likelihood they were hashing out business details, in which GW might've made a few demands himself.

I think you can look at it from both extremes, the danny wanted 4 meetings to give GW every chance, or he wanted 4 mtgs. to convince himself that GW is the man. I just get tired of hearing assumptions about these 4 interviews, as if the danny asked him the same questions in each one. I think it was Matty that said in another post, maybe GW is being hard headed & inflexible.

If Gregg Williams was some other team's D-coordinator instead of ours, he'd
probably be Snyder's #1 candidate right now.

I think you just pretty much summed up everything.

The fact is, you don't know that he's not Snyder's #1 candidate right now.
