jsarno 02-21-2008, 01:25 PM Oh yeah, Bernard Berrian and Ernest Wilford...forgot to mention these guys in my other posts.
Wilford is a big guy, 6'4" 218lbs (I think he's more, but he's listed at 218). I love his size, but he is nothing special...what's the point of bringing in a guy that large, when we already have one? Anthony Mix would be at worst, the same kind of player as Wilford, so to me this is a waste of money when Mix is sitting on our bench.
Berrian is 6'1", 190lbs. The hieght is average at best, and the wieght makes him a small WR. He's cut out of the same kind of mold as Moss and ARE...so why go for 3? Berrian is the perfect #2 WR behind a BIG WR. But put him with other small WR's, and he'll be useless.
Slingin Sammy 33 02-21-2008, 01:27 PM WOW...where do you find that kind of info? I didn't think it would hurt us that much to trade him, just release him.
All the cap info is in the drop-down under Team at the top of the site. Any guaranteed money needs to count against the cap for either a trade or release. Otherwise you could have teams playing major games in trades to circumvent the salary cap.
jsarno 02-21-2008, 01:29 PM I like a lot of what you said here, but theres on thing i have a big disagreement with. most of your points relate to teh height and size of the receiver, which i agree we need a big guy, but you say no thanks to CJ cause its only 6'1' and 192. But Cinco Ocho is by far the most productive receiver in that list, he has issues (money, attitude) but Ive neve rheard anyone say they didnt want him cause hes too small. 6'1" is even pretty big for the skins...
The no thanks comment was for all of it, not just his size.
That being said, I do not think we need another average size WR, we already have 2 below average wr's. We need a BIG guy, and Chad is not that guy. My #1 reason for not wanting him is his attitude. #2 money. #3 attitude. #4 size. (You could substitute #4 with attitude and slide size to #5...size is the least of my worries with him)
jsarno 02-21-2008, 01:32 PM Why does everyone want to trade or cut ARE? Yes he's overpaid but we can't get in a time machine and reverse that decision. The cap dollars are what they are whether we cut him and take it all now or keep him and spread it out. We may as well keep him...this is not a Brandon Lloyd situation...ARE is a contributing player here.
#1- Because he's extremely overpaid.
#2- because most of us aren't paying attention to cap implications at this point. I was not aware of his cap hit if traded until someone slingin sammy mentioned it.
#3- Are was a contributing factor due to lack of options. He had one game where he took over, other than that, he's been a complement player.
SFREDSKIN 02-21-2008, 01:33 PM They are currently on our roster, Espy and Anthony Mix. I would give this 2 guys a chance to compete, plus they are inexpensive. I seriously think that both can crack the roster and be very productive.

Because they don't understand the concept of cap hits.

Releasing him would result in a cap hit as well.

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't know it was there.
How did you come up with that figure on ARE then? Did you add this year's cap hit with next?
Also, how did you know what his cap hit would be if we straight cut him?
What would Lloyd's hit be if we cut / trade him?
(not understanding how you're getting those figures.)

yea I hear what you are saying, theres more to chad that his size, but I dont think 6-3 is more important that 6-2 alone, an inch is easy to make up with jumping (vertical), and do they attack the ball, let the ball come to them, etc. Larry Fitz is my favorite receiver because he catches anythign adn fights for teh ball and twist and bends in weird ways to make the catch. Chad Johnson bring a lot to the table too when it comes to being a receiver, he makes some great catches. if a guy drops the ball who cares how tall he is ya know, or if he cant get to it. Lots of the big guys are slow.
but you said no thanks becuase of the receiver stuff, and teh money, attitude, etc. so the whoel package isnt what you are looking for.
since im a hurricane, so i like players with an attitude and swagger, i think being cocky makes them play harder. only because I watched guys like kellen winslow and shockey, who are clearly asses on the field and off, dominiate people with their play. theres lots of examples of classy guys succeeding too, i just didtn get to see that at the U, lol

That part I understand...I just didn't know that trading players left such a huge cap hit to us.
I do not make an effort at understanding the cap, I have just a very simplistic underdstanding of it. I need to learn more about now.
