Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't know it was there.
How did you come up with that figure on ARE then? Did you add this year's cap hit with next?
Also, how did you know what his cap hit would be if we straight cut him?
What would Lloyd's hit be if we cut / trade him?
(not understanding how you're getting those figures.)
Look under the release fees tab, it will tell you how much a players' cap hit would be if released or traded

skinsfan69 02-21-2008, 01:39 PM ROY WILLIAMS. Big, strong, fast and young. He'd come right in here and be our #1 wr and he'd make our offense sooooooo much better. Could you imagine Roy W. paired with Santana, ARE and Cooley? With Portis in the backfield?? OK. I'll stop dreaming now.
SKINSnCANES 02-21-2008, 01:41 PM did you guys look at that link about the eagles trade offer, its funny to read all the comments eagles fan wrote about how fair the trade is, or how they shouldnt give up a4th round pick for williams. one guy called a 4th round pick (an early great pick)...crazy...we all get in our own little bubble about our teams. atleast we as redskins fans have come to learn that draft picks in the 4th are worthless, lol.
jsarno 02-21-2008, 01:43 PM yea I hear what you are saying, theres more to chad that his size, but I dont think 6-3 is more important that 6-2 alone, an inch is easy to make up with jumping (vertical), and do they attack the ball, let the ball come to them, etc. Larry Fitz is my favorite receiver because he catches anythign adn fights for teh ball and twist and bends in weird ways to make the catch. Chad Johnson bring a lot to the table too when it comes to being a receiver, he makes some great catches. if a guy drops the ball who cares how tall he is ya know, or if he cant get to it. Lots of the big guys are slow.
but you said no thanks becuase of the receiver stuff, and teh money, attitude, etc. so the whoel package isnt what you are looking for.
since im a hurricane, so i like players with an attitude and swagger, i think being cocky makes them play harder. only because I watched guys like kellen winslow and shockey, who are clearly asses on the field and off, dominiate people with their play. theres lots of examples of classy guys succeeding too, i just didtn get to see that at the U, lol
I understand what you're saying, and fact is, Chad Johnson is a top 5 WR in this league...maybe higher. But I'd prefer a guy like Roy Williams who is 3 inches taller and a little more athletic IMO. I don't know the vertical's for each, but I doubt Williams would be outjumped.
Let it be known, that if we do get Chad Johnson, I will jump on board, and I will likely get his jersey, but I'd be very leery of his attitude. I said I wanted a game changer, and Chad is that.
I do feel Chad will be more expensive than Williams too.
ps- I'd take Larry Fitzgerald over Johnson as well.

At the bottom of the link you will see "Release Fees". Click on that tab and you will see the player's salary and release fee. If a player is released or traded the cap for that year will be hit with the "Release Fee", but the player's salary is then off the cap. So for ARE you wind up with $ 6.1M in dead-cap. Sometimes you have the June 1 cuts which I believe are allowed to be spread over two cap seasons, but the total Release Fee amount must be accounted for.
Lloyd's release fee is $ 7.1M, his salary is $ 4.2M, dead cap will be $ 2.9M, much more manageable, especially when he was completely non-productive.

That's where I went to look at the cap numbers (after slingin sammy told me to go there)...it appears that ARE's cap hit would be only 2.7 mil. Is that correct? Like I said, I feel like I am missing something cause I am not a capologist. I'm trying to learn more about this.

Nope, take his release fee of $8.82M - 2008 salary of $2.724M = $6.158M cap hit.
Longtimefan 02-21-2008, 01:51 PM Chad Johnson:
His price tag naturally would be a concern, but his production is undenyable. The kind of player that has the ability to make others around him better. The question becomes, are you willing to put up with the excess antics in exchange for the production he'd bring.
Chad Johnson
Santana Moss
Antwan Randle El
Chris Cooley
These four would present nightmares for any defensive coordinator. My second choice would be DJ Hackett, with Roy Williams a close 3rd.
DiehardSkin88 02-21-2008, 01:58 PM 1) Larry Fitz
2) Roy Williams
3) Chad Johnson
4) Dj Hackett
I would be thrilled to get either one of these receivers, they are all game changers
celts32 02-21-2008, 02:24 PM #1- Because he's extremely overpaid.
#2- because most of us aren't paying attention to cap implications at this point. I was not aware of his cap hit if traded until someone slingin sammy mentioned it.
#3- Are was a contributing factor due to lack of options. He had one game where he took over, other than that, he's been a complement player.
Well I think were all in agreement that he's overpaid and if we could go back we wouldn't sign him again. He's not a bum though...he does contribute and if cutting or trading him is going to hit our cap anyway then we may as well keep him and let him return punts and be the #3 WR. It's almost like you want him cut to make a point that he's overpaid and his signing was a mistake.
