I have to say no, because if that is to be correct, then all people who make bad decisions or stupid decisions or are just generally wrong all the time (like offiss) would be BAD people, and if we disagreed with them, we would HATE them.
I don't believe this to be the case. I bet 90% of the people who booed GW claim to hate the man, but again, these aren't the brightest bulbs we are speaking about.
Yes, Matty, your actions make you what you are. If you make bad decisions as the president of the US, it makes you an inept president. It does not make you a bad person and the people who cant distinguish the two are the simpletons in question.
But wouldn't you agree that any bad decisions made by an inept President could be pretty damaging to society in general? Obviously there's a ton of responsibility that comes with that position, and if you're making bad decisions that impacts millions of people I fail to see where a seperation between the person and his decision making needs to be made. By making the decsions that he has, he's shown us the kind of person he is.
GTripp0012 04-02-2008, 01:04 PM But Bush is the decider-er, so we should dislike him based on his decisions.Yes, as long as we can realize that when he's throwing out the first pitch at a new stadiums is probably not the most ideal time to give him a piece of our minds.
Because, from what we know about offiss, we can't assume he's a bad person deserving of public ridicule wherever he goes.
Same for the president.
Agreed?
Apples and oranges. I don't see anything similar between the two at all.
I might not like offiss's opinions, but I don't have any dislike towards him as a person. Bush on the other hand is making decisions that impact our lives, there's a huge difference there.
FRPLG 04-02-2008, 01:07 PM just like anyone else. you don't do a good job, hence the booing. but i did find it a bit disrespectful
I agree. I don't think I would ever boo a president no matter what I thought of him or his actions.
Yes, as long as we can realize that when he's throwing out the first pitch at a new stadiums is probably not the most ideal time to give him a piece of our minds.
When would be then? Where else does the President appear in the public eye where it would be appropriate to cheer/boo him?

The rest...yeah, I mean, absoultely. You don't have to vote for him, and I'm sure you didn't. You also are totally allowed, as are we all, to voice your opinion to him in the proper setting, or just talk about his poor decision making behind his back. But the problem comes when you decide that he deserves no respect whatsoever as a man...then you've probably crossed a line you shouldn't have.
I have to bow out here. Good points on both sides.
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 04-02-2008, 01:10 PM I agree. I don't think I would ever boo a president no matter what I thought of him or his actions.
Agreed. That goes for bad conservative presidents and bad liberal ones too. I certainly see the "other side" of things though.
onlydarksets 04-02-2008, 01:10 PM Now I'm rethinking - after Bush leaves office, it could be appropriate to boo him if he is, in context, promoting those same ideals that led to such disastrous decision making while he was president. So, if he's doing a Katrina charity event, it would be inappropriate to boo him. If he's giving a keynote speech supporting some political initiative, it could be appropriate to boo.
That bolded conclusion, I couldn't disagree with more.

Just to be clear I'm not saying he deserves no respect. He doesn't have an easy job that's for sure. So for that, I respect him and I respect what his position represents.
But to me his decisions and actions are a clear representation of the kind of man he is. That applies to everyone. The decisions you make are a reflection of who you are as a person. Otherwise aren't you living a lie and not being true to yourself??

This is how I see it and I think it is the biggest problem in country today in terms of politics and governance. Our political machine and it machinations, media, proganda, marketing, have turned our system into one of hate and emotionality. Are there BAD PEOPLE who get elected? Yeah, but truly bad people don't get elected all that often.
I would say even though a large majority of our elected officials have relatively large egos and are seeking some type of power I also believe that they do honestly believe they can do what is best for whatever their constiuency is. I believe this firmly of GW. I don't agree with a lot of what he has done and I strongly disagree with a few of the things he has done but I don't hate the guy. I don't think he is pure evil like so many idealogues would like us to believe. I strongly believe the guy has thought he was doing what was best for the country. It makes him a bad President, not a bad person. If you hate someone for being not very good at something then I pity you.
I don't hate Spurrier for being such a crap HC. And he was at least as bad at being HC as Bush is at being President.
