Dirtbag59 04-12-2008, 03:57 PM To give the board an idea of what type of Tackle Duane Brown is, well the guy I keep on hearing him being compared to is Central Michigan's Joe Staley from last years draft. An athletic Offensive Tackle that used to play Tight End. Apparently he's a lot more raw then Staley was coming out, but his ceiling is just as high.
Dirtbag59 04-12-2008, 04:00 PM If they're on this thread I may have missed it, but I think Alvin Bowen, Jon Banks, and Kendall Langford might need to be on this list as well
I haven't heard anything official but if those are true then I like the interest. The funny thing is that I choose the Redskins to target Alvin Bowen in the 7th round on a whim, mainly due to the combination of him being a late round pick as well as an extremly productive linebacker. Though out of that group Langford is the one that peaks my interest the most.
At the same time I wonder how early is early when Blache says he wants the team to take a DL early in the draft. Also after reading the mock madness story on Redskin.com, I got the feeling that the Skin's might end up targeting Campbell with that first pick. Especially if they feel he's the better player. The example being that last year they passed up a need in Amobi Okoye to draft who they thought to be the best player available in Laron Landry. I know Campbell might not qualify as best player available but he still might make it as "best fit" given his UM "bloodline", experience with the coaching staff, and former top 10 status.
It's Mock Madness! (http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=35187)

Dirtbag59 04-14-2008, 06:40 PM Another Hampton product on the way? [David Elfin] (http://video1.washingtontimes.com/redskins/2008/04/another_hampton_product_on_the.html)
After signing former Hampton University receiver Jerome Mathis as their first free agent of the offseason on April 4, the Redskins will entertain Hampton native Jerod Mayo on a pre-draft visit tomorrow.
Mayo, a three-year starting linebacker at Tennessee, led the nation's eighth-ranked defense and the SEC with 140 tackles as a junior in 2007 while making the all-conference team. The Hampton native, who ran 40 yards in just 4.52 seconds at February's scouting combine, has already earned his degree in sports management and has been working out with former Pro Bowl linebacker Takeo Spikes to get ready for the April 26 NFL draft.
The Redskins, who could use some young linebackers to groom behind 30-something starters London Fletcher and Marcus Washington, are one of 11 teams that Mayo is visiting.

Dirtbag59 04-16-2008, 02:37 PM Scout.com's own Adam Caplan is reporting that Georgia Tech Defensive End Darrell Robertson visited with the Redskins recently.
Given all the defenders the Redskins have had in for visits, it is a given that the Redskins will look to upgrade their defense in this draft.
Defensive Line has been marked as a high position of need for the Redskins. Phillip Daniels and Cornelius Griffin are getting a tad long in the tooth and the need for quality backups now is essential.
Back on January 23rd, Chris Steuber reported that the Redskins had interviewed Robertson at the Senior Bowl as well. So this makes the second visit with him, which could signify that their interest is a bit more than just interviewing any available player.
In that article, Steuber described the 6'4", 245 pound Robertson:
Robertson is a tall, rangy defender who thrives on making plays in the backfield. He's a good athlete who gets after the quarterback and takes good angles in pursuit. He finished his senior campaign with 36 tackles, 16 for a loss and 6.5 sacks. Robertson projects as a late third-, early fourth-round pick.
Currently, Scout.com has him ranked as the tenth best Defensive End in the 2008 Draft.
At 245 pounds, I would think Robertson would either have to gain significant weight or just be a situational pass rusher to have any shot in the NFL.

Never mind it's the same article posted above, of course that DT is really DE Darell Robertson.
Anyway for anyone interested in Phillip Merling
UPDATE WEDNESDAY 10:43 AM EST
Scout.com has confirmed Clemson University DE Phillip Merling will have an on campus workout for NFL teams next Thursday (April 24). Merling underwent surgery for a sports hernia earlier this year and was unable to work out for teams last month at his school's pro day.
Some league sources say Merling could go off the board as early as No. 15 (Detroit Lions) should his workout go well next week.
According to a league source, at least 15 teams should be at Merling's workout.

Dirtbag59 04-19-2008, 02:48 PM Is there anyone who we have been showing more favoritism towards?
Personally I want to say Matt Forte but I've never seen the article so I can't say for sure. I'd also say Malcolm Kelly, based on Cerrato's interest in him on Redskins Radio. Other then that, I can't say for sure. Anyway great find Smootsmack.
Also I think pre-draft visits end today, so if this thread is updated anymore as it relates to players coming to Redskin park, then it will be players that visited within the last few weeks.
Personally I can't believe how far JLC has fallen behind with all these visits, but then again it is what it is.
