i don't mean that. but because of the money, and higher public image they have, they definitely become more of a target (then me or you). and when is the last time you were partying at 6:00 in the morning? its all about using good judgement

The real question is how did this happen on what is considered a very busy street in Las Vegas, during rush hour, with no witnesses coming forward.

Rush hour? It sounds like this happened early in the morning. And it happened off the strip so who knows how busy the street really was.

when are pro athletes realize they are not invincible? hard to feel bad for guys that seem to put themselves in these situations

exact same thing happened to me. robbed, left unconscious with an orbital tri-pod fracture of my eye. $20,000 dollars to put 2 screws and plates in my eye socket and a plastic band to keep the eye ball from drooping.

weird thing is after 7 years no problem until last week when a screw came loose now i gotta have surgery to have all the metal removed.

yeah i deserved it, anyone who goes out after dark to have a good time deserves to wake up in the hospital. (*sarcasm)

go skins!

Matty: From what a Las Vegas writer said on NFL radio the street, at that time of morning, is typically very busy. It's one of the big arteries in Las Vegas. And considering he was in a club till 6am -- that kinda says he'd be around during the morning rush hour.

Yeah but you're from Baltimore, we expect that type of behavior. ;)

Well as a recent college grad who is now enjoying summer, there have been many a nights when my frolicking has lasted into the wee hours of the morning.

I agree that it is about good judgement, and that stature has made these athletes constant targets, but you have to remember that these are young guys who go out, wanting to have a good time. Prior to having lots of money, this is probably the type of life they were living. Vet or rookie, famous or not, most people want to have a good time. If he chooses to spray the crowd with Dom P, and make it rain with $100 bills to have a good time, then just so long as he isn't hurting anyone, or breaking team rules, so be it. It doesn't mean that this guy should be targeted, robbed and assaulted (I know that isn't what you're implying).

You make these comments now, but just a little while ago when Sean Taylor was ruthlessly murdered, several people in and out of the media said that he had it coming for returning to Fla. and his past encounters, etc. Darrent Williams shouldn't have been targeted either, its just people with envy and jealousy targeting these guys. That shouldn't stop them from having a good time.

dmek, you say that as if Walker deserved this.

He didn't deserve it at all. But he's got to use more common sense. If one of my friends got shot in the neck and died in my arms I probably would never ever go to a nightclub ever again. But that's just me. Apparently the dude is buying 15k worth of champaign and spraying the crowd with it???? I mean why is he doing this? Why is he acting like this?? You know someone got pissed and someone ran up on him and beat the shit out of him. Would you see Jason Campbell, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Tomlinson doing this? No. Again he didn't deserve this. But if you put yourself in this type of position, spraying people with champaign, then you're only asking for it. I hope he's OK.

Nice take OTM. You are absolutely right that, in spite of the fact that Walker didn't act prudently, it is horrendous that our country has descended to the state that we blame victims of violent crime for not being more careful. As somone who moved from Baltimore to one of the safest countries in the world I can tell you that it's a wonderful feeling to be able to stay out late without any fear of anyone doing wrong to you.

Are you familiar with Zach Sowers? He was a friend of mine, recently married, who was beaten into a coma. He passed away this year. His crime was walking home alone from a bar in Baltimore.

I don't claim to have any solutions, but I do think we have to take pause when we all start blithely accepting violence as a regular fact of American life.
