LOL... my thoughts exactly.

Question to mods: with the shitty economic situation out there I wonder if it's been a little more difficult telling when somebody has been gut-punched by the world and is taking it out on so and so or when we're just being a-holes?

I think us Redskins fans have anger management issues...do you remember what it was like around here when the team lost to the Rams?

Uh huh. I used to just visit the site before last year and damn i remember seeing some ugly bickering after the playoff loss to Seattle in '07.

Anyway my early thoughts have been we ought to pass on both guys but want to hear what good arguments are out there for grabbing one or the other... signing both would be impossible, right?

I don't think the Redskins should try to get Haynesworth or Peppers.
My reasons:

o the cost would be huge and both are older players; imo the team should be leaning towards getting younger and having more fiscally responsible contracts, i would rather see them draft a defensive lineman then sign one

o both fit into the category of curiously dominant defensive players during their contract year; i'm not saying that they would mail it in once they get they paid, but it is a risk

o on the whole i don't think big money free agents pan out and then there is the chemistry factor, scheme changes etc

o the defense was good without them last year and although either of them would be a big improvement i don't think the defense would become a dominant enough unit to win use games (b/c Blache scheme)

o i think that with the limited money and salary cap issues i think the most benefit to the team would come from improving the offense, namely the offensive line. Imo if the offense was more consistent and could score a few more points it could force teams to become 1 dimesional then the defense would improve as a by product

o also i think we have some young talent on the team that needs to play, why not give them the opportunity DE Chris Wilson and Rob Jackson

That's what I have been wondering about for a while; after all they are still on the roster list, they should have been given a chance to take Daniel's role instead of biting on JT bait.. Evans filled in the position and exceed than our expectations (IMO).. The 2nd rd pick could have been used on younger and possible a good or star DE or OT, but nope..

Anyone here interested in trading for Derrick Burgess? I don't know what the asking price is, but rumor is he's on the market.

I'd say no, regardless of his skills, we don't have the assets to trade for the guy most likely and he's entering a contract year so you'd need to extend the deal or it's one and done.

Hell be 31 when the season starts. Age aside, he is an above average DE. If he were a free agent, id be more inclined to consider him, but theres no way i would trade ANYTHING for him. we need to stop trading draft picks for aging vets. Occassionally, theres a player thats worth making an exception for, but Burgess is not the guy. Also, at 260lbs, hes pretty undersized for a DE. i doubt he would be any more successful opposite Carter than Taylor was last year.

I really think the only thing we should do at DE right now is extend Evans. He is not a star, but he is a capeable starter. We wont find anyone in free agency this year who is better than Evans (for the price) so we should just be happy with what we have (for now) and focus on more pressing needs.

Vinny Cerrato was just on redskins radio. After being very ambiguous in answering pretty much everything, he casually mentioned that Phillip Daniels would be a free agent on February 27th.... even though his contract goes through 2010 according to this site. i'm thinking he didnt realize what he was saying and let something slip. Good news IMO. We would be foolish to bring back a 36-year old DE whos had injury problems in recent years.

This could also be a sign we plan to keep Evans and/or Taylor.

Daniels has to go... Taylor needs to take a pay cut or be cut... Anthony Montgomery and gholston need to stay, orakpo has had a few knee problems, but the guy is a freak if we don't draft him, I don't think we should get maybin, cause he's very thin, and if you think that orakpo is not good against the run wait till you see maybin Tyson Jackson of LSU is good and reminds me of phillip daniles a little bit, but he isn't that fast at getting to the QB... But I'm very high on brandon Williams of Texas tech who did led the big 12 in sacks (not orakpo) with 13... The DE to watch for is Lawrence Sidbury of Richmond

I think it would be a good thing to choose Evans over Daniels. I also think it's moronic for Vinny to say that on the air - unless he had already informed Daniels that he'll be cut. It would be pretty lousy for a player to learn he's out of a job via a radio spot by the GM.

Sidbury is a friggin specimen and will be the steal of the draft cuz he's likely to fall to the 2nd round. I wish we had a pick to use on him :(
