mredskins 02-19-2009, 11:40 AM If you read the caption it says about writing the stimulas bill. The President does not write bills so it was not refering to him but does this mean if anyone does a cartoon about Obama its races. The only time I even look at him as AA is when its pointed out by the media or who ever is bringing it up. I know he is the first AA to hold office which is a great acheivement but after that he is just another person and thats how I look at him.
If you have not heard some one degrade a AA by comparing him/her to an ape/monkey then you may want to crawl out of the rock you have been living under.

I don't want to get into the race thing and maybe your point is valid about that cartoon.
Slingin Sammy 33 02-19-2009, 01:07 PM NY Post and its Cartoonist think they're funny too:
What's really funny is the response from the cartoonist to criticism:
My initial reaction was the same as most, it looks like a racist attack against Obama. However thinking about it (and giving the cartoonist the benefit of the doubt that he's not a full on racist moron), what the cartoonist was probably trying to say is that the Stimulus bill was so poorly done a monkey must've wrote it. HOWEVER, that's what editors are for, and for them to miss the racist implication in this is inexcusable. The editor who blew it should be fired and if I'm the Post, I don't use this cartoonist anymore either.

I agree with you. At no time do Ithink the cartoonist intial was trying to make a racist remark but that was a poor choice to use because many will think he is racist.
724Skinsfan 02-19-2009, 01:32 PM ^ That makes too much sense...ignored.
Trample the Elderly 02-19-2009, 01:47 PM Y'all are so damn sensitive. I don't remember anyone saying anything when they made W into a monkey almost every week. Oh what about when they made Condi into the black crow that sat on his shoulder and whispered into his ear?
No Saden, I didn't draw that cartoon. I do think it is funny though. My co-workers are saying that its racist as I write this. Everything is racist to them so I really don't care.

I don't think the editor and cartoonist are racist, I just don't think they're very bright. What were they thinking? It was funny? That everyone would laugh along? Even worse than the cartoon was the response. They don't even have the ability to recognize the reception of the cartoon was not what they expected and squash the controversy as quickly as possible. No, instead we get an idiotic response to criticism with "if you’re going to make that about anybody, it would be Pelosi, which it’s not."
I don't think there was racial intent either, BUT I can certainly understand how it could be seen that way.

I'd lump these two idiots in with Greg Brown.

I always thought decency was universal. As for lumping them with Greg Brown, I protest. GB has a special place all by himself :p
