JC is just a slightly jazzed up version of Frerotte, face it. Think Gus had shit to work with from '95-'98? That fact didn't faze Casserly in not renewing Frerotte's contract, who of course asked for a raise. Think Snyder is going to give JC a raise for a 7-9 or another 8-8 record? Haynesworth is going to help out for sure, but damn we have holes the size of Pluto to fill with regards to putting together a first class offensive unit. Do you think the WR's are going to catch fire all of a sudden? The rooks might increase production but not by a whole lot. Let's be honest for a change, none of the post Gibbs I era Qb's with the exception of Johnson have had a lot to work with, and even then you can debate that. JC is no exception and to be quite honest with the exception of Cooley and a healthy Moss, I think Frerotte might have had a better WR corp than him. Frerotte had a pretty good O line as well. The one we have now seems to be always falling apart with injuries. I hope to god we don't trade down. We need another quality linemen ala Samuels or Lachey!!!!

I can't say I'm shocked given your user name, but it's hard to see any sort of relevance in comparing Campbell to a guy who last played for the Skins in 1997.

Statwise they are not that far apart. JC won't surpass Frerotte in total yards passing til weeks 6-8 if his average of last year holds up. Also to surpass Frerotte's TD career mark JC better hope his WR corp gets it act together. Check the yardage and TD marks yourself. And by the way JC is average to above average, and that is the comparison that I am making. If Frerotte and even Johnson were expendable with their respective acheivements as Skins, why do you think JC should be an automatic resign? That is the whole thing that boggles my mind.

To Gtripp,
The whole comparison with JC and Frerotte is that they will/were given time to mature and show some progression into a potential franchise QB. Frerotte didn't get over the hump per say, so he was released. I just don't see JC getting over the hump in proving he is a bona fide franchise QB this season with the "crap" he has to work with. Frerotte didn't have much to work with either. That to me is the similarity also. My whole thing is why should everyone think JC should be resigned, when if '09 sucks again he hasn't proven himself capable of getting over the hump like Frerotte and other QB's.

I guess it means playoffs, but who wants to oversimplify an evaluation that much when the subject is the starting quarterback?
Comparing total passing yds from Frerotte in 1997 to Campbell 2009 just isn't very helpful. Sure, they're going to be very close in passing yards because Campbell's about reached the point where he's got as many passes on the Skins as Frerotte, but that doesn't tell me anything. Gus may have been the last QB the Redskins drafted who actually got this much time to develop, but the NFL wasn't a remotely similar league then, so that's why it makes little sense. Campbell's success or failure here has zero relevance to how Gus' career here ended.

Brennan is 2-3 years away....then he turns into Favre!
Although I'm very for JC and expect him to truly kick ass this year, I could see this happeing! Not in 09 but maybe 2010 due to the fact JC isn't under contract then and might be allowed to hit the FA market if he doesn't perform! I also think Colt would excel in Zorn's WCO with two years under his belt in the system! Would he be a perfect QB his first year starting...NO...but I don't see him being bad either! He has that Favre moxy to him!

I like Colt. He's got swagger. But the only way he plays is if J.C. proves he's NOT the guy.
