Late Round Gems

As many of you pointed out Shanahan likes to pick his running backs in the later rounds. I 've started to study the backs out there and there are some gems that we can get late in this draft. I really want us to pick lineman in the first 2 rounds, if we don't trade back into the first. So I ask you, who are some late round guys that you know that we should check out? All positions

I've talked about LeGarrette Blount in other threads. At his best he reminds me of a Steven Jackson because he can run on the inside and the outside. He won't go down from arm tackles. At his worst he reminds me of Lendale White. After his well known suspension this year I think he will fall in the draft, possibly into the 4rth or 5th round. Maybe even the 6th.

Another guy I would like to see us get is LaMarcus Coker. He has ran a 4.28 40 and excelled against top competition when he was at Tennesseee. After he left Tennessee he went to Hampton and has continued to shine. His issues are well documented but he has the talent to excell in special teams and has IMO- Chris Johnson/ Devin Hester type talent. Only comes around every few years. Between the 2 players I'd pick LaMarcus handsdown.

That is the only part I don't agree with.
There is a new Sultan McCullough, Jerome Mathis, and Albert Connell every year. It just so happens that Johnson has great vision along with his blinding speed. Devin Hester is lightning quick but is not a quality WR or CB, Not sure why he isn't a returner anymore.

People are more likely to fall in love with the Chris Johnson type back this year but they are more likely to get a Sultan McCullough instead. I would be very happy if there is a back in the later rounds that has vision and knows how to make one cut and go upfield like Terrell Davis.

Unfortunately I don't follow college ball well enough to add a sleeper pick.

There's this QB people don't know a lot about named John Skeleton. I was the first one on this fourm to learn about him. No one else, especially SmootSmack, knows about him but me.

I can only comment on 2 of these guys, shipley & Grimm.

I'm a Hokie so have watched a lot of Grimm this year. He's small, 5'11, 225, which might mean by the time he's at the combine he's 5'9, 215. I just can't see him making it in the nfl, but if he does he'll have to play strong safety. I don't think he has the speed or coverage ability. I doubt he could bulk up to play LB & maintain his speed. He's definitely an undrafted free agent, I will bet $ on that (well, w/the caveat that the raiders might take him in the 3rd round).

Shipley seems like he could move up to the 2nd or 3rd rounds if he has a good combine. I think a lot of scouts will want to see his 40 times. I got sick of hearing people compare him to welker. He seems more of an outside flanker to me.

There's also Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, DB from Indiana (PA). I just like the name really. Still, he is considered a 4th-5th round choice if I recall correctly

Well he's a converted QB/DB who only recently started playing RB. Honestly...I think he can be like a Josh Cribbs type. I wouldn't necessarily want him as the every down back, but he's the kind of player you want to find ways to put the ball in his hands in as many different ways as possible. He's great in the open field.
