Lotus 06-14-2010, 01:54 PM I thought we played well after the England goal, and I'm not too proud to accept some luck on Dempsey's goal. Particularly satisfied with Gooch's performance given his lack of playing time since his injury.
I don't think England is done, they just showed that they won't be able to win it all with their current goalkeeper. Their defense was pretty solid and only gave up a few chances. They're still a great team. I agree that Germany looked ridiculously good.
Sadly, if we finish second in our group, we likely will play those doggone Germans in the round of 16.
On another front, go Japan!
BleedBurgundy 06-14-2010, 02:20 PM Man, the US should have won with how many quality shots they had on goal and I was happy to see them try to go for the win. Ingland is done IMO...no defense no goalie no WC Championship.
Germany looked amazing...technically sound and beautiful football.
There was such an obvious difference in class between the Germans and the Australians... They should've instituted a mercy rule in that match. Germany looks like the best of those that've played so far.
BTW- anybody else love that Dodge Challenger commercial? A bit on the "wtf" side, but great in its own way.
saden1 06-14-2010, 02:25 PM Just to clear up this.
You have to have 2 people between you and the goal.
The keeper came out for the cross so there was only the defender on the line between the scorer and the goal.
Correctly given offside.
I didn't know about the rule...it's impressive the refs caught that.
BDBohnzie 06-14-2010, 04:25 PM I don't think England's done. Not sure why Capello picked Green over James, as James is much more seasoned and a better keeper. I wonder if it was arrogance on England's part. They have too much talent to be done, but stranger things have happened (See France 2002).
Was surprised to see Ghana win without Essien, but they looked solid. Can't wait for tomorrow's Portugal/Cote d'Ivorie matchup. Even if Drogba can't go, they are still solid and I hope that put that greasy mullet in his place.

If England's goal is to win it all they certainly didn't look the part of a champion...weak defense. They have to get bigger to play with the big boys...I don't think they have it in them but time will tell.
Should be interesting to see Ivory Coast vs. Protugal. I like both teams but without Drogba I don't know where they're going to get the goals from.
BDBohnzie 06-14-2010, 05:03 PM World Cup 2010: Brick-by-brick fussball - England 1-1 USA | Video | Football | guardian.co.uk (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/video/2010/jun/14/world-cup-2010-england-usa-brick)
Without Rio Ferdinand anchoring the back, they looked a bit lost. Glen Johnson played very well, but the rest of the defense was lacking. It'll be up to Terry and Cole to step it up.
A lot of pressure will be put upon Cote d'Ivoire's Salomon Kalou if Drogba can't go. But you're right, they will be hard pressed to score if Drogba doesn't play.

Terry's a crappy human being. He deserves everything he gets.

That's hilarious! I doubt Kalou will do much...besides, he's an indecisive bitch.

I certainly don't disagree, and I'm not an England fan. However, to write them off is a bit premature.
Les Bleus looked like utter crap against Uruguay. I don't want to see another lapse like in 2002. Can't wait for Laurent Blanc to take over the squad, should have done it after Euro 2008...
saden1 06-15-2010, 11:31 AM OK, they need to watch tapes after games and hand out yellow cards that carry-on to the next game. All this faking injury shit is pissing me off... Ronaldo is one big bitch.
