Don's anger at Lane forging his fake name is a bit ironic though
MAD about Mad MenSmootSmack 06-05-2012, 10:36 AM Don's anger at Lane forging his fake name is a bit ironic though mredskins 06-05-2012, 11:01 AM Don's anger at Lane forging his fake name is a bit ironic though I think Don disciplining anyone for the actions Lane did is very hypocritical of him. Think of all the lying and cheating Don has done in his life and Lane did it once (to our knowledge) and Don had the balls to be that harsh with him. Don could have easily swept it under the rug and said if it happens again you are done Lane or I am reporting you to the other partners. I really beleive this was a one time deal for Lane. PLUS since Lane was a partner it is not like he was a employee; why did Don have so much power to tell him to resign? If I were Lane I would have come clean with the other partners and let a vote decide my fate but maybe Lane had to much pride to be humbled like that. SmootSmack 06-05-2012, 11:23 AM yeah I think pride wenteth before the fall, as they say. I think though, as when he let Sal go, Don thought he was doing the noble thing for everyone involved. It could have been much worse in Don's mind had he not let Lane simply resign Here's a question though, does this now open things up for Peggy to return possibly as a partner? And does Joan with her books-smarts become the Lane of the company? mredskins 06-05-2012, 11:34 AM Only way Peggy comes back is as a partner and yes I agree I see the window of opportunity for Joan in Lane's role. they may also intro a new character; we have not had a new character in some time. Meagan I suppose is the newest primary character by all accounts. It could have been much worse in Don's mind had he not let Lane simply resign You think Pete would have allowed Lane to stay on? He probably would have pressed for embezzlement charges and jail time. I can't imagine Lane ever being able to come forward with this in any situation where Pete might be able to lord it over him. While Don cheated & lied in the past, he clearly has developed his own code of honor which seems to apply to others. And, really, since the break up with Betty, has he cheated? But, yes, getting angry b/c someone falsified the signature of your false identity does seem a tad hypocritical ... SmootSmack 06-11-2012, 09:12 AM So...how did we all feel about the season finale? mredskins 06-11-2012, 11:21 AM I had also thought Pete might be the one to determine his own fate, but never wanted it to be him. Pete Campbell is one of my favorite characters on the show That said Lane Pryce was one of my favorite people on the show. But what an ending, what a sad and tragic ending to someone who was so under-appreciated for what he meant to the creation and emergence of SCDP. Don's reaction was remarkable, probably thinking back to when his half-brother committed suicide by hanging himself. Don had no relations with Helen Bishop, she was just the neighbor. This was a awesome call by you! I read it and thought nah he was more shocked that he may have contributed to Lane's death but Don is too self centered for something like that to bother him. I also love how Don went to Lane's wife's house as though he was the Knight in Shinning Armor that was going to ease all her pain with the $50K check, ha that went over like a fart in church. Overall good episode; I was looking for a bigger bomb shell to be dropped but it really never came. I guess Lane's death was the biggest bomb for this season. I think the old Don comes back next year. Looked like he was flirting with trouble at the end there. itvnetop 06-11-2012, 06:10 PM So...how did we all feel about the season finale? Didn't have nearly the emotional impact of the previous two episodes, but I consider the finale a season epilogue anyway. I dug the dialogue between Don and Peggy in the theater. The meeting totally cleared some of the air that permeated the last one. Loved the new office space. 12thMan 06-11-2012, 09:26 PM This was a awesome call by you! He's always listening to the confessions of others, consoling and giving advice, and telling others that tomorrow will be better. There are tons of examples. His character is more spiritual and complex than we often give him credit for. Jak101 06-14-2012, 01:51 PM I have been completely undecided on whether to watch this show. Looks like I need to start now... |
