Should have signed Shayne Graham.
Graham Gano has to Go !!SkinzWin 01-02-2011, 09:08 PM Should have signed Shayne Graham. htownskinfan 01-02-2011, 11:14 PM My thing is this...our offense the last 3 years is horrible and I see no huge turnover in our future, so every single point is needed. Look at all the overtime games this season alone or last season loses of very close games. A good field goal kicker makes sense in our situation. Gano is leading the league or near the top in misses this season. We need major improvement here. Hey,I completely agree. Our front office hasnt put enough emphasis on signing a good kicker in yrs.Like I said,Im all for signing a kicker if its somebody thats really really good,if their not there than just keep Gano. He's got a strong leg and kickers usually get better with experience,he should be better next yr. MTK 01-03-2011, 09:01 AM Gano needs some serious off season competition. Shanahan seems to be a believer in him, so I doubt he just gets dumped outright. KI Skins Fan 01-03-2011, 10:30 AM Gano needs some serious off season competition. Shanahan seems to be a believer in him, so I doubt he just gets dumped outright. Off season competition, my foot! He needs to go! Missing several short field goals is absolutely unacceptable. Also, he has kicked the ball out of bounds on some kickoffs, as well, giving opponents the ball at their 40 yard line. That is also unacceptable. How many times have we seen a place kicker do well enough in camp and preseason to win a job only to see him suck in the real games? We just don't need a replay of that scenario here. freddyg12 01-03-2011, 10:39 AM I was at a bar & couldn't hear any of the commentary when they showed Gano, S'berg & punter (holder) after the kick on the sideline. Gano was doing all the talking & rolled his eyes at the guys. Looked like he was blaming them for the snap/hold being bad. Was that the case? Anyone hear what was said on the telecast? MTK 01-03-2011, 10:42 AM Overall he was very solid on kickoffs. He's young, so Shanahan has to decide whether it's worth sticking with him to see if he can work through his issues, or do you cut ties and move on? I think he's worth keeping around, but bring in a quality vet to compete for the job. firstdown 01-03-2011, 10:51 AM Gano has missed 11 kicks = 33 points this season. Sure some of them have been long misses but still... Just as a point of reference, we have scored 302 points all season. Your wrong and thats the big problem. He is missing short kicks. Gano 24 of 35 20 to 29 yards 8 of 10 30 to 39 yards 4 of 7 40 to 49 yards 11 of 14 50+ 0 of 3 As you can see he sucks from 20 to 39 yards which are the ones he should be making just about 100% of the time. I'd give him a break on the 0 of 3 from 50 plus if he was making the shorter kick but he is not even making them. I bet SS is saying "You Miss Me Now". By the way when we let him go his average was around 87% and he has made 13 of 14 this year. The same people that wanted him gone have let Gano slide on his god awful kicking because he is young. I don't get the young part because its not like kicking is different in the NFL from college. If anything kicking in college can be harder because of the wider hash markers. In his defense someone said he has kicked several KO out of bounds but that has only happend once and he is ranked 15th in those stats. hooskins 01-03-2011, 10:58 AM Letting Suisham go was an instinctive move and a mistake IMO. Gano's accuracy is bad and his KO's are average. However we have been under average in KO for the last couple years, hence the reason that area is mentioned a lot. I think you bring in other kickers for competition, but do not cut Gano unless we have a solid replacement. MTK 01-03-2011, 10:58 AM At least with Gano he's much better on kickoffs than Suisham Chico23231 01-03-2011, 11:00 AM Here a list of FO for Punter and Kickers. We need both Punters: Adam Podlesh (JAC) – Though Podlesh hasn’t boomed a lot of his punts, he does a good job with hang time and limiting return yardage on the back end, putting him in the top 10 of net punting. He’s a nice young punter who should continue to punt at a high level. Sam Koch (BAL) – Koch has been a nice consistent punter who has improved on his work pinning the ball inside the 20. Daniel Sepulveda (PIT) – Sepulveda has a strong leg and should be a top 10 punter for the next decade. He wasn’t great pinning teams in the 20, but his net hasn’t suffered as a result. Kickers: Matt Prater (DEN) – The opportunities haven’t come as frequently, but Prater remains a reliable kicker with a strong leg. He’s accurate inside of 40 and has the leg to boot the long ones. He’s very strong on kickoffs too. Ryan Longwell (MIN) – Longwell, like Prater, hasn’t had as many attempts this season, but has missed only one all season. To be fair, he has attempted only one beyond 40 this year, but has the leg to still hit from around 50. He’s a good clutch kicker and happy in a dome. David Akers (PHI) – As a virtually lifelong Eagle, I don’t expect the two sides to part ways now. He’s drilled numerous game-winners and still has the leg to hit beyond 50. The two sides will probably get a deal done shortly after the season. Adam Vinatieri (IND) – Though he’s getting up there in age, Vinatieri’s accuracy hasn’t wavered much. In the dome, Vinatieri and Indy seem like a great match as he starts to lose a little on his leg. Ackers isnt leaving, everyone else could be. |
