Brody81 12-24-2010, 11:25 AM Redskins Insider - Donovan McNabb's agent blasts the Shanahans (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/donovan-mcnabb/donovan-mcnabbs-agent-blasts-t.html#more)
Mike Shanahan responds to Fletcher Smith | ProFootballTalk (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/12/23/mike-shanahan-responds-to-fletcher-smith/)
I was surprised there wasn't a thread on this yet.
I get what Fletcher Smith is doing. And I hear what Shanahan is saying. McNabb has said all the right things, but his agent works for him. If he didn't want Smith saying those things about KS and MS, Smith wouldn't have.
The Shanahans have blundered seriously this year. My way or the highway is okay to an extent, but you have to blend that kind of style with deft management of personalities (see New England. Same attitude, no leaks, no malcontents). And in that department, we have failed. They've acted like stubborn jerks at times this year, with ego prevailing.
I was hoping the Skins were finally being run by adults. I'm still not so sure. The dysfunction this year seems just as bad or worse as in year's past.
How have they blundered anything in regards to McNabb? What respect does he deserve? He is a 5-9 Redskins QB that has sucked all year. Why should MS respect a guy that won't run his system, or disagrees with plays that are called. An example would be me getting fired from my current company, and then rehired from another, and in the first year I disagree with how they run the company, and stop listening to my direct boss.... I would be fired immediately. Kudos to the way MS handles cry baby players, and kudos to Kyle for demanding DM benching.
htownskinfan 12-24-2010, 11:25 AM The whole situation is fked up,neither side has handled it well.Yes mcnabb has not played well but you gave up 2 big draft picks to get him then you treat him like dirt.I said months ago Shanahans ego is out of control and I still believe it.He should have never been allowed to hire his son, thats a recipe for disaster if there ever was one.How do you think he's going to handle any criticism of his son? Not very ****ing well. He'll never fire his son no matter how bad he sucks,it will always, always be the qb's fault and not his sons.Another stupid stupid move by the organization
Reid traded McNabb because he had one year left on his deal and they knew they weren't going to re-sign him with Kolb waiting in the wings. I know it's more fun to believe Reid had some sort of diabolical plan in place and thought DM was washed up, even though he was coming off a season where he threw for 3553 yards, 22 TDs, and 10 INTs, and his highest QB rating since 2006.
I don't care what anyone says, DM can still play in this league, he just wasn't a good fit here for a variety of reasons. Shit happens. All this other drama now is just girlie tabloid crap.
Chico23231 12-24-2010, 11:30 AM Looking back at how the Shannys and Bruce have handled both Albert and McNabb havent really gone that well. We could have at least gotten a 3rd rounder for Albert b4 the season, I dont think we will get that now and the whole benching of McNabb for Rex for the final drive whateva sh*t game that was and now the public spat going on will drive down any price we were hoping to get for him.
What do we get for these players now? 5th or 6th rounders? God thats piss poor.
Brody81 12-24-2010, 11:30 AM Memo to Donovan. Having your agent do the dirty work so you can still call yourself "professional" is bullsh*t. If you want to take the high-ground then you take it. You don't travel it and send your friends and family the other way. Pathetic...you sucked this year and Shanny sat you. You got what you earned. This organization didn't owe you some magical level of respect for deeds that you did for another team. The Eagles sh*t on your head and you said nothing and neither did your agent. THEY owed you respect for what you did for them. You haven't done crap for the Redskins so don't fool yourself into thinking you have earned one iota of respect from the team or fans. You got your ass outplayed by Rex f'ing Grossman. Get over your diva ass and don' let the door hit ya on the way out.
Thank You!!
GMScud 12-24-2010, 11:33 AM How do you classify the Trent Williams pick?
Fail? Non-signature move?
I would classify it as a non-signature move. O-line was our biggest deficiency, and Trent was the best player available at tackle. Good pick for sure, but certainly not a signature move. The only time I'd really call a draft pick a "signature move" so to speak would be something along the lines of taking a QB #1 overall.

Well, the knee jerk reaction of benching him in the Detroit game, and then the totally pathetic "reasoning" Shanahan came up with- he wasn't in "cardiovascular shape" to run the 2 minute drill, Rex knows it better, etc etc. That was a huge blunder IMO.
Brody81 12-24-2010, 11:36 AM Wah.. His Agent complains..
This is football, and Shanahan is looking for people who practice hard, and play harder. Fatty Al, and Mcnabb were doing neither.
The reason why it seems that Shanahan "handled" it poorly is because the media stretches everything way out there. Shanny has said it doesn't matter if you are making 1 million or 1 dollar. The best players will play, and those who give the msot effort.
I applaud Shanny for what he's done so far. I'm excited for the future. No longer will we have overpaid veterans who consider a practice to be 30 minutes on the bike, or 15 minutes in the ice tub.

Comments like this make me feel confident we still have knowledgeable fans in DC.

Good post.
It's funny that Skins fans have become so used to the drama queen players getting their way around here. The fans scream for change, but when it finally comes they resist just as much as some of these crybaby players. For years peopled have wanted a no nonsense, my way or the highway kind of leadership style in here. Now that we have it, it's all http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i318/JVM485/Avatars/smiley_cry.gif I don't like this now.
DM simply wasn't playing well at all, he should have been benched after the Detroit game. Amazing that after not having started a game since 2008, Grossman of all people is able to step in and do 2 things DM hasn't done all year, throw 4 TDs and put 30 points on the board.
DM is a great guy and I really wanted it to work out for him here, but if it doesn't and someone else can step in and perform at a higher level, get his ass outta here and let's move on. All this BS about respect, or crying about they didn't cater the offense to me, just totally rubs me the wrong way. It's an obvious ploy by DM's agent to get him outta here sooner rather than later.

That's a fair point, in a vacuum. But these are the Redskins- a team with a history of shipping off desperately needed draft picks for old vets. A team that was coming out of two years of circus-like coaching/organizational moves. A team that needed sound personnel decisions and a steady QB.
Shit does indeed happen. Year after year. That's why this is getting so much attention. The Shanahan regime was supposed to bring a departure from this sort of stuff. As of yet, no dice.
Sure, Redskins Park no longer hast the country club mentality, but can you really say a whole lot more about Shanny/Allen thus far?
