Some of the best renditions I have heard were from members of the military. They sing it properly and there ARE talented singers outside of MTV.

Agreed on that!

I understand what people here are talking about it being a "rendition" of the song, but you have to admit that some of these crazy runs that some of these singers like to invoke are a little too over the top!

Incidentally, I remember hearing C.A. sing the National Anthem for the NBA Finals and she did a heck of a job. Didn't seem to be as over the top with the runs. I think probably what happened was that she got nervous and tried to over correct.
