Never go full retard. (:

Well I was hoping people would see the sarcasm with that pitch.

They combined for 98 catches last year. Are there many better duos out there?

maybe we are not looking at this in the same manner, when your tight end is the second most targeted player on the team and your second tight end has just over half the catches as a backup running back and only 1 more than your fullback that's not exactly a duo to me

Three years in, we've refused to feature both in the same offense. If we're not going to hire an offensive mind that can do with two tight ends what all other teams are doing, and if it's going to be one player burying the other, then just move one now.

I think it's patently ridiculous that no offensive mind has figured out how to use two TEs at the same time to maximize the talent on our roster, but I just don't see it being any different this year.

I don't know of any team that truly features two TE's. I can only think of NE that use a lot of 2 TE sets. It'd be nice to have them both on the field a little more, especially on 1st down. However in obvious passing situations, I'm not sure having both on the field would work.

I'd prefer to keep Cooley & Davis too. Seems that all we hear every offseason now is this silly trade Cooley talk. He's only 29 and still very productive, no reason why he can't keep playing at a high level for another 4-5 seasons. Keep them both, and find a way to get Davis more involved.

I agree. Gotta keep Cooley.

Just because we actually have really good depth at one position is reason to get rid of one of the players? TE is always an area where you can use multiple guys on the field at the same time. Unless some other team makes a big trade offer for a high need area and wants Cooley I see no reason the Redskins should voluntarily try to trade him just for S&G's.

Whatever you want to call it, I'm sure there aren't many teams out there that got more production last year from their TEs.

I don't think any team in the NFL is as deep 1-3 as the Redskins at TE, except perhaps the Titans, and they don't really have a clear number one. And the 2 TE formations were clearly up from 2008-2009. Problem is, it's a running formation for this Redskins team. That's not such a bad thing, IMO, but you could do exactly what we currently do with Davis and Logan Paulsen as the top two TEs, and have no production dropoff. Davis just steps into Cooley's role as the focal point of the passing attack, and the no. 2 TE remains largely ignored and gets pulled on third downs.

Which is really the biggest point of all. We could trade one or the other and still have a really good TE situation. But we're missing the obvious opportunity to excel at the position because of some weird ratio of attempts we're trying to have between Cooley and Davis.

You can say that for cooley vs most other te duos, doesn't mean that we're utilizing them properly or getting even near the most out of them, it's a waste of talent

Probably just comes down to the coaches trust Cooley more. Davis is known to have some issues regarding work ethic and focus. So if we want to blame anyone blame Davis.

I'm going to have to stick by the keep both Cooley and Davis train of thought:

A) Like others have said, TE isn't a hard position to fill for a lot of teams, thus, we would not be looking at getting a lot in return for either player.

B) Cooley is much more than just a skilled all-around TE. He's also a good leadership influence on this team. Maybe not a London Fletcher, but it's good to keep guys who have been with the team for 7+ years. Nobody seems to be taking that into their evaluations.

C) There's this thing called depth... just having one good player at a position doesn't always cut it

D) I really like that having both of them lets us exploit mismatches when one matches up better against a secondary than the other.
