Around the NFL Week 14

So I have a fantasy question for you all

I'm in an ESPN league where we have no waiver wire and our trade deadline has ended (our league manager didn't tell the league it was over we had to figure that out on our own). I have Roy Helu on my team, another guy has Cam Newton on his but also has Tom Brady. He doesn't have an RB. I wanted Newton but the deadline has passed. So he said he really needed an RB and that he would swap with me Helu for Newton. I would have to drop Helu late late at night and he would drop Newton at the same time. We swapped those players he and I were happy.

The league wasn't because they claim I 'cheated'. I see no way how this is cheating if two teams agree to swap players and if that's cheating than any other player that has been added and dropped by a team from another team should then be cheating. Is this cheating?

Of course that is cheating. It's obvious. You tried to skirt the rules about exchanging players after the deadline for doing so. Swapping players and working the waiver wires are not the same thing despite your attempt to see them that way.

It isn't. If the system physically allows them to do so, then they can do it. If they don't want that loophole, change the goddamn settings. The buttons he pushed were the "drop" and the "add" buttons, hence it is an orchestrated drop/add. The computer system doesn't give two shits about intent.

Thats what I'm saying. I see how its frowned upon, but it is legal. And like you said, change the settings then.

So why'd you ask if you continue to justify the move you made? Yes, you circumvented the system and yes it's cheating.



Reminds me of when the SKins and Rams traded these two guys just so they could turn around and cut them without having to pay them.

Perhaps instead of changing the system, they should just get honest people to play. If people have a sense of sportsmanship and fair play, the system settings won't matter. The computer may have no sense of intent but honest people will.

He has not violated any explicit rules, but rather an implicit one, which is the "spirit" of the trade deadline. Said purpose of that is to prevent organized deals from taking place.

But in zero-sum games like these, until you start enforcing(if you can), they'll always keep on cheating. That's why Yahoo implemented vetoes to stop the same user from beefing up one of his teams with two accounts in its public leagues(and the veto system itself can be abused to prevent certain fair trades too, and good faith is the only thing stopping it from being abused. In competitive leagues, it will be abused).




Although I must say, it'd be interesting to see the arguments for and against whether the "spirit of the law" regarding the trade deadline is applicable to planned drop/adds. /nerdy last paragraph

Cheating is when you do something illegal or that gives you the upper hand over others. It is when you do something that no one else has the ability to do. Other people in my league can do this. Cheating would be if I had some code on ESPN and was able to type it in so that I could obtain players that are unattainable, or so that I could swap out players that are performing badly during games with ones that are playing better. Thats cheating. Coordinating with someone to add or drop a player when adding and dropping players is legal, isn't cheating in my eyes, but to some it is.

Its like saving a parking spot in a busy mall parking lot, during the holidays. Or its like going back for seconds and thirds on a free sample of something. Its frowned upon, but perfectly legal and acceptable.

I think the Colts will draft Luck and send Peyton to the Dolphins for their 1st rd pick. I think the Dolphins will be a team that will have a new coach and Peyton has some weapons like Marshall and Bush on the offense. I would not be surprised at all with this trade.
