Cowboys DT charged with Intoxicated Manslaughter

I agree for compassion with anybody in that situation. But I hope he goes to jail for a long time. 2nd DUI? He clearly isnt perfect, or smart for that matter.


According to this site, the range of punishment is 2-20 years, although probation is an option as long as the the convict serves 120 days in jail.

This Brents 2nd offense, and a judge could choose to make an example out of him. However, i would imagine his contrition, the fact that the victim was his best friend, and victims family seems to have forgiven him could make a judge more likely to show some leniency.

It takes a big person to forgive or at least have some empathy in a situation like this, sadly most folks aren't up to the task.

I agree Matty. Having empathy for someone doesn't mean you condone what they've done. Some seem to take it that way. We've all made mistakes.....a lot of us were fortunate enough to not have the same consequences for our mistakes as others.

So if someone commits a crime twice, they should be locked up forever? You do realize that murderers, rapists and pedophiles get out of prison in only a few years all the time. We should let more of them out so that we can keep people convicted of DWIs behind bars forever?

Based on limited available evidence, Brent is truly remorseful for his actions. I doubt he will ever drink and drive again. I mean, if you were driving drunk and killed your best friend in the whole world, probably watched him die, would you drink and drive again?

Regardless of whether RGIII or Cousins plays, we're going to find out alot about this team on Sunday. In years past, this would be a "trap game" where we played down to the level of the opponent. I shouldnt even say years past, becuase we played down to Carolina and lost to them. Good teams beat up the bad teams. Cleaveland and Philly arent horrible, but they arent good either. If we are a good team, we'll beat both of them fairly easily.

I also think there is this prevailing mentality that things are black and white. Right and wrong. Things cant be in the middle. Why can't he be wrong for his actions but someone we can have empathy for?

Totallt agree with this. Happens all the time. There are always varying degrees to everything. Your either good or bad, your either a hater or an apologist. Too black and white.

He probably won't due much jail time, will more than likely plea to lesser charge. He can afford a good lawyer who can plea it down. His real punishment is going to living with killing his friend, because of something so stupid by not calling a cab.

My friend, a former police officer, just did a 5 year stint for Drunk driving - forget the exact charge. He did not kill anyone but there were people that got hurt. I was under the impression that in alot of states - drug possession and dui carried as much time as did rape or certain degrees of pedophilia?
