artmonkforhallofamein07 09-04-2013, 09:24 AM Have you SEEN the Cowboys Guards? Absolutely abysmal. Hell, Anthony Munoz is 55 years old now, and I bet even he could come out of retirement and be an upgrade on that interior.
To your other point....not concerned about Water being out of football and missing camp/pre-season. In 2011, he signed with the Patriots on Sep 4th, well after camp and preseason, and went on to start every game (including the Super Bowl) and earn another Pro Bowl nod along the way.
The guy is an immediate upgrade at RG. And I kind of like having a veteran of this caliber working next to Travis Frederick every day.
Not saying this sign will make Dallas lead the league in rushing. But he is a good upgrade at RG.
I have seen them to an extent, and I am sure you have a better grasp on it than I. My point was just to take await and see approach is all. He very well could be better than anything you have and on paper 2 years ago he definitely was, but now with the layoff I would just wait to make a statement like the poster of the article.
He may be good, average which is better than what is in Big D now, or he could be out of real football shape and take some time (in shape and football shape are two different things). But dude I applaude the effort to at least try (and have a good shot) at getting better up front. Thats all I was really trying to say.
So what are your feelings on the two openers in the NFCE?

I agree, Waters is a serious upgrade. However, this move is months too late. Unlike in 2011 with the Patriots, Waters has been out of the game for some time. It will take time for him to get into football shape. It will take time for him to learn the playbook. It will take time for him to gel with his OL teammates. So there is no reason to expect the "real" Waters until after Halloween at the earliest.
If Jerry had not been playing cheapskate, he could have had Waters in the door months ago, and Waters would be ready to go now.
JoeRedskin 09-04-2013, 10:01 AM I get what your saying. My issue is the whole "surround your QB with talent" thing. Cowboys just seem to think that Wide Receivers, Tight Ends and Running backs are the talent and it stops there. They never consider the offensive line, defense or Special Teams.
No, an organization has to surround them with talent on all sides of the playing field. They have to have a defense they can count on to stop teams late in games. They have to have a special teams that wins the field position battle. Most especially, they need to have an offensive line that can win the battle up front late in games to win the time of possession.
Surrounding your key players with "talent" does not stop at RB, WR and TE. Jerry Jones does not get this.
Welcome to the world of Vinny Cerrato.
JoeRedskin 09-04-2013, 10:06 AM As a follow...that's where Snyder and Jones always differed. Snyder had an incredible run at choosing the wrong people to make decisions. He wasn't making the decisions but he was bad at find someone who knew what they were doing enough to make them. I suspect there isn't much difference in the way it works now except that Shanny isn't a total joke at roster building like Cerrato was.
Snyder is a lot of things but I think he gets a real bum wrap in terms of football. He has tried his ass off to make this work. It hasn't been about ego or lack of self-awareness. Although he does some have some of both when it comes to football he has gone about it right but hasn't made good choices.
This.
Not a big fan of the guy for other reasons, but he is not trying to run the franchise on a day to day basis (and I don't think ever really was anymore than most owners). Vinny finally got kicked to the curb after DS said "Okay, no more hiding behind others Vinny, show me what you got." He proceeded to do so.

Was just checking the odds on this weekends games. Denver is a 9 point favorite over Baltimore.
But for the NFCE games this week, each home team is favored by only 3 points. Which means the odds makers are basically calling it even in both games.
I think Dallas FINALLY gets a win over the G-Men in AT&T Stadium. Giants are 4-0 at AT&T, but Dallas is 6-0 versus NYG in season opening games. And if there is any team in more injury trouble then the Cowboys, its the Giants. Deihl and Bass will probably not play. And they are dinged up in the offensive backfield and the defensive secondary.
Skins win at home over Philly. But I am interested to see a couple of things in this game.
1. How will the Shanny's use RG3? Will they try and protect him more? Did not see Griffin dump passes out of bounds last season when under duress, he usually ran for the sticks.
2. Want to see how the Eagles pace their offense. Chip Kellys offense at OSU took an average of just over 20 seconds per play. That is several seconds faster than the fastest in the NFL last season (Patriots).

I think the Cowboys will win big, but this is said with the follow up. I think they will quickly become too big for their shoes, and will crash and burn, if not week 2, then week 3. By week 8, they will be in full flames.
RedskinRat 09-04-2013, 11:31 AM Cowboys lose week 1, it won't get much better for them as the season progresses.
Monkeydad 09-04-2013, 04:20 PM I'm surprised the Cowboys didn't jump on Pashos and Trueblood.
Pashos might be starting for Oakland now...and Trueblood was just picked up by Atlanta.
Dallas could have used both of them for depth and to try to pry into our offensive secrets.
I'm surprised by Jack's honesty...he's FINALLY getting bummed out by his horrible team. Rare for a Dallas fan, they're usually delusional.

I think they will.win week 1. They can't keep losing at home to NY eventually it'll end.
Monkeydad 09-05-2013, 11:27 AM Switched over to the "Tiki, Brandon and Dana Show" on CBS Sports Radio this morning while Czaban was on a commercial break and they were doing predictions.
All 3 idiots picked Dallas to win the division and Brandon Tierney went as far to say we'll be LAST in the NFC East.
The media...they'll never change.
This is the same network the gave Vinny Ceratto a show.
