GTripp0012 10-22-2013, 09:11 AM Is this the thread to point out that LaRon Landry, who is not here in part because of his propensity for personal fouls, is rated as a top ten safety this year by PFF? I know a team that could use that kind of player!
skinsfan69 10-22-2013, 09:15 AM The first hit on Jeffrey was 100% legal. To me that's a football play and a little bit of targeting there. Just like the hit last week against Suh on Weedon. The NFL is out to get some guys. 30k for a completely legal hit? C'mon... If ST was still alive and playing I'm not sure he could even play in today's cream puff league.
What's so frustrating is Merton Hanks is the main culprit who's handing out these fines and suspensions. He was a DB so I'm not sure why he goes so overboard with it.

That's great for him, but what does living in the past do for us? He's not here anymore, and when he was here, he was constantly injured and refusing surgery to treat his injuries. Best of luck to him, because I'd rather focus on who we have on the team.
GTripp0012 10-22-2013, 09:17 AM I feel like we'll definitely see a heavy dose of the running game, they'll probably try to keep Peyton off the field by controlling the clock. I definitely think there's a good chance Peyton will pick us apart when he has the ball, so our best chance of winning is by not letting him have the ball. The rules pretty much prevent us from keeping the ball away from Peyton Manning. No matter how well the Redskins can sustain their drives, they still have to kick the ball back to Manning at the conclusion of the drive.
But with that in mind, I'd put in at least one surprise onside kick play to try and steal a possession (as well as not having to cover a kick) from Denver.
What would absolutely kill us is if Shanahan pusses out and kicks a field goal in a fourth and short situation. That would be the very definition of beating oneself.
skinsfan69 10-22-2013, 09:17 AM So what everyones thoughts on how they will try and contain Manning? Are they are going to have sell out and and play pass every down? It will be interesting to see what Haslett comes up with given the personnel he will have at his disposal. Hopefully Rambo finally shows up and Gumbs comes through....
They have a few guys out on their o-line. Gotta get pressure and knock him around a bit. Can't let him sit back there and have all day or we have no chance. But the NFL is in love with Peyton so anyone that touches him is subject to a fine/suspension.

He still can't cover anyone. He might as well have changed positions and played OLB.

True but you can still limit his TOP by using the run game. Obviously the Broncos will be aware that we are definitely going to try and run the ball, because that not only eats up clock, but really allows us to go out and execute our offense, but at the end of the day we still have to execute.
Monkeydad 10-22-2013, 09:23 AM Bowen tore a PCL against Da Bears.
DE Stephen Bowen tears ligament - NFC East Blog - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/blog/nfceast/post/_/id/57782/de-stephen-bowen-tears-ligament)
Bad.
Jenkins will start now I guess, with Golston on the other end.
Defense is getting thin but I don't think it makes a difference at this point, they were already too bad to repair.
I really hope Doughty makes it back this week though.
Maybe since we're deep at LB, we should consider moving Kerrigan or Orakpo to DE, preferably 'Rak. I know they've only been 4-3 DEs but they're not getting sacks in this scheme, so we're wasting them. These guys are made to punish QBs and we should put them in whatever position helps them do that.
I'd start:
Jenkins - Cofield - Orakpo
Kerrigan - Fletcher - Riley - Jackson
Hall - Amerson at CB
Doughty - Wilson at S
or go all out after QBs:
Kerrigan - Cofield - Orakpo
Jackson - Fletcher - Riley - Jenkins
Hall - Amerson at CB
Doughty - Wilson at S
Think how scary it would be to have Orakpo and Kerrigan lining up on both ends to come after your QB every play.

I agree that we're going to have to run a bit to execute our full offense. We're really not talented enough to sit back and chuck it the way Dallas did for an entire half against them.
I don't think it's a secret that the only way to beat the Broncos is for the offense to put up a bunch of TDs early, and then let the defense take advantage of the depleted Broncos OL. Only problem is "score a bunch of touchdowns" is going to be task of execution, rather than something you can design before the game. If only it were that easy.
BTW, I'm watching the Colts-Redskins game from 2010 right now and Garcon just got behind the defense for a first quarter touchdown. We should totally go get that guy.
