We need to stay far away from Nicks. He pouted and cried for more money than Cruz, so what did he do in his contract year? He sucked. Big time. No touchdowns and looked like he was giving half effort most of the time. Plus, he's injured pretty often.
He's going to want too much money for what he's worth and probably won't be on the field half of the games if we sign him.
i would be shocked if anyone gives him a big deal, i think he is gonna get a 1 year deal to "prove it". No risk to bring him in on that kinda deal.

Here are the seven players I would target:
- WR Hakeem Nicks OR WR James Jones (Not both)
- OT Anthony Collins
- G Chad Rinehart
- G Mike Pollak
- DE/DT Randy Starks
- LB Daryl Smith
- CB Brent Grimes
Jones is a good #2 guy. Though he can be inconsistent at times.

Disagree, we need talent not good guys who can't catch.
Nicks could not catch this year. He's to blame for a lot of Eli's INTs.

Too many stop gaps here. Collins would be a good signing. Problem is doesn't he play left tackle?

Nicks is terrible. He was in a contract year and basically checked out.

We're going to have to settle for some stop-gaps. We have more holes than money despite the huge influx of cap space.
From that list, I like Collins, Rinehart (should never have let him go), Daryl Smith and Grimes. James Jones too, if we can't draft a #2 WR. He's been around for a while, but only 29 and solid. He'd be a big upgrade over Hankerson/Morgan/Moss/Robinson.
Morgan and Moss are probably gone. Moss can still play but not for what we're paying him. Morgan has been overpaid from day 1 but with the cap penalty, he's the best we could afford.

I say keep Niles Paul, he's our best ST player.

I would say that much differently. The amount of cap space we'll have is near endless. The problem is there won't be enough impact players available who fit our system, so Bruce will do the smart thing and find stopgaps instead of overcomitting to players who don't fit.

I personally think both Bowen and Carriker need to be let go.Bowen will cost us over 7 mil against the cap and really hasn't done jack the last 2 yrs.1 sack 4 pd and 5 TFL in the last 2 seasons? Carriker is due nearly 7 mill and he hasn't played in 2 yrs.I like Carriker but he is more body builder than football player.
Not sure how much of that is Guaranteed but i'm sure the release of those 2 would clear up some more space.Does that create a hole? Sure but is that position not a hole as it is? Why not clear some space to actually fill it instead of hanging on to these 2?
Also Golston will cost over a mill and he should have been let go yrs ago. This is one of the reasons i was hoping we would move to a 4-3 base. Even with the release of these 3 (and the cap space that would free up) we would still have Cofield , Jenkins and Neild at the DT position with Rak( franchised) and Kerrigan at DE. I think all of those guys are better fits in a 4-3 than a 3-4
Hey guys I have been reading the salary cap info for years on this site and find it very informative. No other Redskins' fan forum gets this indepth and I am intrigued by the cap for whatever reason so I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.
These suggestions made about releases are pretty good but some would result in a lot of "dead" money. I have a spreadsheet I made that is heavily based on Spotrac but that includes a column of possible savings. I'd like to post it for you guys if you'd like but not sure how to add attachments.
According to the our $ carryover and potential 2014 cap of $126.3mill (from what I've read) our cap space will be just under $36mill. This is already great but we can get additional space with the following moves:
One of the biggest savings would be to cut Adam Carriker outright who is scheduled to earn $6.7mill. Although he would cost $3.5 mill in dead money his savings would be just over $3.2 mill.
Also another big savings would be getting rid of Chris Chester. He counts for $4.3mill against the cap and cutting him, even though it would cost $1.6mill in dead money, the savings would be $2.7mill.
Unfortunately Steven Bowen's $7mill cap figure and resulting cut would be over $5mill of dead money so only about $2mill in total savings. Maybe worth it still I'm not sure. They should definitely get him to take some sort of pay cut IMO.
Kedric Golston would be a good cut savings wise. His $1.1mill salary would only have $240k of dead money so about $900k of cap savings right there.
I don't want to step on anyone's toes but let me know if you guys want a copy and how I can post it then you can play around with it yourselves. :)
