A reason millions of bees are dying - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/07/10/the-surprisingly-simple-reason-millions-of-bees-are-dying/)

I had heard of Colony Collapse Disorder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colony_collapse_disorder) before but right now its freaking me out because I'm not sure if I'm witnessing it first hand. The other day outside a super market there was a swarm of bees next to my car. Pretty much all of them seemed like they were dying as there were at least 20 dead bees in the middle of the swarm.

Then today when I get back to my place there's what appears to be a dead queen right next to where I park my car (seriously maybe its my car). And I'm pretty sure its a queen because it looked a lot like the queen in this picture (http://kidsandvegetables.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/castes1.jpg?w=487).

For those who might think this is a good thing keep in mind bees play a vital part in the eco-system:

Basically there are farmers in Asia that are having to pollinate plants manually. A process which is extremely time consuming and ineffective especially compared to the rate bees are able to complete the same task. Of course when you're out of options, well beggars can't be choosers.

Regardless its still way to warm down here for the Bee's to start dying off. Personally I'm not the biggest environmentalist but this issue definitely has my attention.

In other bad news:

North Korea sentences American Matthew Miller to 6 years at hard labor - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/north-korea-sentences-american-matthew-miller-to-6-years-of-hard-labor/2014/09/14/aa91ac40-3c05-11e4-b03f-de718edeb92f_story.html)

Just a terrible story.

Funny thing is next to Greece, the Ottoman empire particularly around Istanbul used to be one of the more forward thinking and open civilizations in the ancient world. Sad to see it reduced to this.

Yup. This world is the devils playground. Alls we can do is break on through to the other side.

Yeah, I'm a ginger ale fan with burbon. Coke is wayyyy to sweet as a mixer. I see ginger beer now as the big mixer in the hip restaurants around town.

I would agree. The sugar between the coke n rum is a killer.

So right when I was about to step into the shower the other day a cockroach ran across my foot. It was the first one I had seen in years. Needless to say the video below is practically an exact shot for shot recreation showing how I killed it.

i got laid off yesterday, this is about 1 year after the regime change, and about 4 months since i had to interview for my own job.

they gave me the option of moving to minneapolis, but w my lady in her first year of teaching high school here (not yet tenured, and without proper mn teaching credentials), we are in no position to move.

i am updating my resume right now, any tips or general advice appreciated. i was a product marketing specialist (w manager responsibilities) for a large erp software company.

That sucks, been there.

Stay mentally/physically active. Don't let yourself become a sloth. It's easy to let yourself go at a time like this. Don't. Take this time to learn a new skill set that maybe could help you in your new job. Maybe even consider your own job

Don't limit yourself to the jobs that are actively available. Just about every job I've had in my career has been a job that didn't previously exist. I did my research on where the company wanted to go and pitched myself as having the skills to match their needs. Obviously the foot in the door is usually to apply for an open position, but don't be afraid to be bold

thanks smoot, all very good advice.

luckily this industry and area have extremely high turnover rates, i made many friends who have since left the company. i was only there for 2 years (1 as an intern and temp), but several rough leads courtesy of those peers.
