New Stadium for the Redskins being planned . . .

for what it's worth, i've been going to every game for quite a while and will do so again this year...

my only other problem is the sheer size of the stadium. i know that if the team was playing better we'd have a higher % of skins fans in the stadium, but there will still be a lot of other teams' fans. bumping it down to a capacity in the 60k's would tip it back to where it should be.


The more you cut back on capacity the higher the price of the ticket and PSL's,less people equal less beer sold ,less food sold ,less everything sold .Also cutting down the capacity will not stop other teams fan from getting in ,stub hub and such have changed all that .

well yeah, you have to decide your product is worth more than squeezing every penny out of its consumers :)

that may be a good point about stub hub. i don't know. i think there is a threshold where the problem gets worse, i think its somewhere around 70k.

From my understand the Skins would have to repay all the money for the infrastructure if the lease is broken but my question is again what do you do with Fed Ex ?

The stadium is equity ,tear it down and lose a lot of value .Maryland doesn't want it ,Ravens ,no ,Navy,no ,even if you develop the land and add housing there isn't enough property to equal the value lost in the stadium .I doubt even Dan Snyder will throw away 750/850 million dollars .
The land alone is worth at least $500,000,000 based on location and infrastructure. A mixed use development of it would generate a fair amount more in revenue for the county and state than the current situation where it sits empty 345 days a year.

The physical stadium equity argument is dubious. The actual stadium is only worth what they could get to have someone else occupy it and there aren't a bunch of revenue generating pro or college sports teams wandering around homeless.

I disagree ,you just did that on the other side of the beltway where the Cap Center use to be and the Landover Mall failed so I sincerely doubt that the area can sustain any more new business's and no way is the property alone worth 500 million .Not in that neighborhood .

Then re-purpose the land. There is no way that Dan Snyder would keep paying upkeep on FedEx and just have it sit there empty. Makes zero sense.

Maybe he'll let it fall apart like RFK did. Maybe he'll make PG county agree to pay for the demolition to use the land, and maybe they will because they will be looking at a large chunk of land doing nothing for them. They'll lose all the tax revenue generated by events at the stadium. There may even be an agreement to pardon the Redskins from paying property tax on the stadium, though I have no reason to think that's actually the case.

You're right that something will have to be done about the stadium. But I don't think it's that big of an obstacle. PG county will want to use the land, the Redskins will want to not have it on their asset sheet. Maybe it'll be part of the buyout of the lease. There's a lot of options.

One of which is they could use it for events, but I have a feeling if Snyder builds a new stadium he'll want to use that for all of his events not Fedex Field.

Your last line is on point. Snyder (and any large venue owner) is not going to leave a competing structure standing and also pay taxes on it.

Absolutely a dumb idea!!!!!!! C'mon now!! The stadium isn't even 20 years old!!! Snyder trying to bilk the MD or VA taxpayer for something that is totally unnecessary? If Snyder wants to earn more money, why doesn't he concentrate on putting a winning product on the football field, instead of his trying to sucker taxpayers into coughing up more of their $ for something as dumb as a football stadium. IN a few years tax payers are going to need every penny they can get just to stay alive and pay the bills.
