punch it in 09-18-2017, 01:22 PM I have to give Gruden a lot of credit for the game plan. The Rams have elite pass rushers but undersized run defenders. Running at them was the best approach and they found a way to be successful.
Btw, it was almost a home game at the Coliseum. Lots of B&G in the stadium!!!
I was listening on the radio and definitely forgot it was an away game more than once.
metalskins 09-18-2017, 02:27 PM I am so glad that Gruden finally decided to do what he said he was going to do and run the ball. And man, I'm telling you, this was like old Redskins football. I'm talking about John Riggins-Joe Gibbs football with the counter-trey and so forth. It worked like a charm. Of course, just like with our luck, Rob Kelley goes down with broken ribs! Really??? I hope Perine will catch on. I think it took Kelley a couple games to get his legs under him, so hopefully Perine will have some better runs. It looked like toward the end, he kind of started gaining some steam. The defense also looks really good too!
The bad thing though, when Ryan Grant is your go-to go, that isn't good news. Crowder needs to stay the slot guy, because that's where he excels at. Doctson needs to start playing some football and Pryor needs to learn to catch. It's hard to say if Cousins looks mediocre because of the lack of talent at wide receiver, or if he looks bad because he's struggling? Maybe it's a little of both, but this is a good litmus test to really find out what we have with Kirk Cousins. Still a long season ahead of us, but when you're staring down Oakland, KC, and Philly after the break, I don't like those odds.
FrenchSkin 09-18-2017, 03:25 PM O line was getting a great surge. Some big holes.
Secondary is a legit strength. Kupp (3 catches - 33 yds), Watkins (2-30), Woods (1-8, Austin (1-5). Except for that 70 yard blown coverage play for TE Everett, secondary is shutting things down.
Zach Brown had 10 tackles. Resign him if he will take reasonable money. Kerrigan made 1 play, the strip sack. Jonathan Allen also was credited with 1 tackle.
Tress Way had 4 punts, 51 yd avg, 2 inside the 20, long of 62. Great job.
I feel like this is 2015 Kirk. Not 100% comfortable yet, trying not to make a mistake vs making a big play. No trust to take down field shots. Great job on the game winning drive. great job to punch it in for a TD. Clutch late.
To me that was Foster blowing the coverage.
(Love him anyway, been a firm believer in him last season. Called Cooley and Kevin after week 1 in the preseason to say i wanted him and Zach brown to start at ILB.)
EDIT: my bad, rewatched, definitely Everett.
Positives:
-Playcalling on both sides of the ball
-O line play!!!
-Matt Ioannidis (not the MVP of the game but it's a nice surprise, which we needed at DL)
-Defense overall
Negatives:
-Dropped passes
-A little too much missed tackles to my taste
Again, if this D starts consistently wrapping up, this a tough and solid D !
Schneed10 09-18-2017, 04:24 PM I'm not worried about Rob Kelley one way or another, he's completely replacement level in my mind. Meaning Mack Brown or Perine could step in and do the job just as well.
I guess Kelley's a little better in pass pro but Thompson will still be the third down guy anyway.
skinsfan69 09-18-2017, 04:46 PM On some of those runs that Kelly broke I couldn't help but think if it was Thompson, or maybe even Perine, they would have went for much longer runs. On one he had the defender one on one in the open and it seems like he just ran into him, instead of putting a move on him or breaking out to the sideline. I like Kelley's toughness and ability to get the hard, tough yards, but he is just a guy.

I'm not sold on Kelley as a long term option either but he was more impressive in the first half yesterday than he has been at any point in his career. I'm excited to see if it was a flash in the pan or if something actually clicked with him, he was hitting gaps and finding the hole in a way he hasn't shown before.

Totally, he did it last week a couple of times too. He had room to bounce to the outside, but inexplicably he cuts back in right into a defender.
I think Thompson definitely would have, Perine, we'll see.
calia 09-18-2017, 06:34 PM Has Mack Brown been elevated? Any news on that?
Bangee7 09-19-2017, 09:22 PM Has Mack Brown been elevated? Any news on that?
Mack is on the 53 man roster...it's just whether he'll be Active (or Inactive) for the game.
My guess is they activate him & he tears it up.
calia 09-19-2017, 09:23 PM Sorry - I meant activated. And I hope you're right. Let's see if a training camp stud can transform into a regular season one.
