BleedBurgundy 09-11-2005, 09:51 PM I think I was one of the "bitching" fans being referred to. Maybe some of us did have an unrealistic expectation for this game. Like I said in another post, I'd like to have a few weeks perspective to really know how good that D we faced today was. At this point, I'm not of the opinion that they were a top 10 defense. I just didn't see it. We struggled when we got into the red zone. That seems to be a left over concern from last year. I think the original question was something to the effect of would you rather win an ugly, close game or lose a shootout? I am glad we won, I just wasn't pleased with what I saw when we had the ball. I think I'm also irked by Ramsey not returning and it looking as though there is a convenient excuse to hand the keys to Brunell next week. I haven't heard a single vote of confidence or positive comment regarding Ramsey from a team source. We need STABILITY. Not changing QB's on the first day. And I know that there has been no word saying Brunell is now the starter, I just get the feeling that's what's going to happen...
DirtBagZ 09-11-2005, 09:55 PM Matty, I think some of us are frustrated because we continue to have problems scoring in the red zone that we saw all last year.......
but a "W" is nice, especially the game before Dallas...........
My frustration stems from the following, we barely beat a team at home starting a rookie quarterback. The Offense is yet again, inconsistent and unable to put up touchdowns. We have a quarterback controversy.
The last especially is bothersome, I saw enough of Mark Brunell last year to not want to see him start again. Gibbs has tipped his hand with how he managed the QBs. Ramsey was cleared to play, Gibbs stuck with Brunell, in the post game Gibbs praised Brunell, mute on Ramsey save focusing on how the 'team' has not learned their lesson regarding turnovers, although by team he really meant Ramsey and Brown.
Lastly in sports there is no greater way to regain the confidence of your teammates and the fans then to pick yourself up off the matt and make a comeback after being hurt. Even though I am not a NY Knicks fan, and it was before my time I know of Willis Reed coming out and playing hurt. If Gibbs thought anything of Ramsey he would have given him a chance on the first possesion after half-time, instead he stuck with his precious Brunell. With Brunell we will play not to loose, which almost always results in not winning, case in point the prevent defence. For myself this is why I am frustrated.
STPainmaker 09-11-2005, 09:56 PM A win is much better. Last year we learned alot and lost, this year I hope we win and have some tough wins. I want to win as we progress through the season. We may be singing a different tune next week in Dallas they look great....Ouch.
BleedBurgundy 09-11-2005, 10:04 PM I just watched the postgame news conference from Coach Gibbs. Brunell will start next week, just wait. FUCK.

I agree that some teams we simply aren't going to be able to beat simply by getting Field Goals, no matter how well the offense moves.
However, the Bears are one of those teams we can-and did-beat with only field goals. Plus, no matter how much the offense improves this year the defense is the best part of this team and when in doubt the game will and should be put in their hands.
Also, Ramsey had a neck injury and may have suffered a concussion. Personally, I believe that with injuries like that no matter how the player says he feels you don't bring him back in that game. Let him take the rest of the day off then reassess the next day. Those injuries are too serious to risk further damage.
EternalEnigma21 09-11-2005, 10:23 PM neck muscle injuries usually resurface with tenacity the day after and re-straining it would only delay his return. Gibbs said when asked that he would have to asess the injury situation before making a decision on the QB for dallas. I'm really pulling for ramsey, but either way, I think we can get it done.
I'm not too worried about the offense. The one pass from brunell in the endzone was just short, but cooley beat the coverage and had to adjust for the ball. The other was a horrible call where cooley was being bear hugged in the endzone and got penalized for breaking free and catching the ball. I don't mind a couple of mistakes by officials, but how many times do we get points called back for rediculous calls. Its hard enough to beat the other team, but I swear to god we have the best team in the league, because when we win, we have to beat ourselves and the refs.
RedskinRat 09-11-2005, 10:24 PM I'd also take a win every time, maybe we can have the D score some time soon.
Let's say Ramsey's neck is stiff all week, Brunell SHOULD get the start at Dallas.
I'm not sure what you guys were watching, but that was a nasty clothesline and Ramsey's head bounced off the ground.
But the conspiracy theorists will insist this is Gibbs hating on Ramsey and putting his boy Brunell in there.
I'm hoping Ramsey will be healthy enough to start, but I wouldn't be surprised if he can't go. That wasn't your typical take a hard shot, shake it off and go back in.
If anyone has ever had your neck snapped in a car wreck you can relate just how painful that can be.
Sure Ramsey himself said he was ok, that's not surprising, we all know how tough he is. Gibbs said the Dr.'s had some doubts, Brunell was playing well so he left him in there.
When you have two quality QBs you can have that luxury, and we should be thankful for it.

Thats basically what I was trying to say with my post. Sometimes you'll feel better initially, but then in a day or two, you can't move. Why take a chance and hurt him anymore. We got the win.
Also, everyone is up in arms because of the gibbs press conference... and I don't really understand it. He did say that he would have to evaluate the injury situation on tuesday before he made a decision. To me, that sounds like as long as ramsey feels better, he'll go back in.
SmootSmack 09-11-2005, 10:45 PM I suppose we should also perhaps consider that Gibbs is playing mindgames with Dallas. Not that the Cowboy have to gameplan all that differently for Brunell and Ramsey. But still, it could be that Gibbs is implying Brunell is the starter so that's what the Cowboys prepare for. Just a thought
