That is something that's puzzling to me as well.

I don't think it is bigger Ramsey fans than Gibbs more so, than it is just alot of our opinions that is was a bad choice or decision given the timing, the circumstances to yank him after the injury as an excuse not to go back to him after a quarter of play this year. Ramsey should have had a longer string this year and i think everyone can agree that it was not a fair or accurate choice. You don't pull your staring QB and then make the statement I am waiting for a QB to step forward and establish himself. Say Brunell throws and int and throws for 120 yds and we lose does he go back to ramsey due to Brunell did not establish himself highly unlikely.

I am amazed that some on this board are bigger Ramsey fans than they Redskins or Joe Gibbs fans.

i think above all else we are fans of winning, and Ramsey won more last season *in spite* of Gibbs decision to maintain Brunell. if Brunell was really injured, it just makes the decision even more baffling. i think for the most part we all love Gibbs, we're just waiting for the rust to come off and the good instincts to come back.

As you said, I don't favor Ramsey over Gibbs. That's a silly comparison to make. I favor winning - something we've had very little of in the past 10 seasons or so.

And, I don't think Gibbs' decision will help us to win. My feelings are not personal towards Ramsey, Brunell or Gibbs. I just want us to win. Brunell proved to me last year that he can't get us there. Ramsey is still a question mark for me because, under Gibbs, he has not been given a chance to prove himself one way or the other. I want him to be given that chance and that means being allowed to play, in the regular season, for a lot longer than 1/3 of a game.

The answer is yes, I support Gibbs in making this decision that he is paid to make - because I am a fan of the Skins. This has to be put in perspective. Gibbs is not benching the clear-cut best QB to give an obviously inferior QB the start. Choosing which of the two QBs gives us the best chance to win is all subjective, and I'm inclined to support Gibbs when he uses his gray matter to make a football decision involving gray areas.

Am I surprised at the decision. Yes, a little bit - since Gibbs had publicly named Ramsey the starter and I felt that we needed consistency at the position. However, as has been noted or eluded to in other threads for quite some time, you didn't have to be a close observer to notice that Gibbs didn't seem all that enthralled with Ramsey. This year's #1 pick should have been the writing on the wall.

I think the real issue here is that Redskin's fans love Joe Gibbs and want to see him succeed as much as they want to see the Redskins succeed. Fans are afraid that he's making a bad decision and don't want him to further tarnish his football reputation in his second stint. I say we treat Gibbs as any other coach at any other time, with any other team. He's responsible for his decisions and actions ultimately. If this move turns out to be the right move, this will all blow away. If we have a terrible season and Jason Campbell isn't ready to come in next year, Gibbs will have deserved the blame. But for now, let's let him do what he's paid to do without so much moaning and whining.

With our limited knowledge of what happens in the team meetings, practices, and locker room, it's difficult to make a judgement of Gibbs's decision. From my perspective, I initially thought continueing with Ramsey as the starter BUT keeping him on a short leash for the next two or three games would reduce controversy and show fairness. But in retrospect, I really can't doubt Gibbs's judgement on these things. He's made these kind of decisions before and, although he is only human, I'm inclined to trust him more than some sportswriter or even a critical fan. I do wish Ramsey the best, but I also realize he hasn't done anything to deserve keeping his job as a starter(and I don't blame him for wanting to be traded either). :httr:

I noticed an interesting comment from Coach Gibbs while I was just watching his press comferance where he made the anouncement on Redskins.com TV. He said he looked to the past to take notes from and he talked about Mark Rypien being on the IR for 2 years, then get his chance to play and throwing 9 interceptions in 8 games. He said they kept trying to get it across to Ryp not to allow so many turn overs and they worked with him in drills and such. But the biggest thing Joe Gibbs thought got across to Rypien was this... he sat Rypien and let some one else be the starter. He said Rypien learned from that experience and the next time he was prepared to take the reigns and be the starter. You all know what happened then. SUPERBOWL MVP, BABY, YEAH!! "I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD, WHOOOO!!"

:D

JK, you seemingly have glossed over the most glaring part of that statement, and it's 2 word's EIGHT GAMES! Not 19 minutes, and just for the record Ramsey will be much better than Ryp ever was if given a fair chance.

no f*cking way!!!!!!! I dont care if Brunell goes 15 and f*cking 0 ,you dont pull your starter after 19 minutes in the first game, epecially when the replacement was the worst f*cking qb in the nfl last yr!!
having said that,do i want brunell to go 15-0,of course i do cause I'm a skins fan, that still doesnt mean it was the right thing to do

So let's say for kicks that Brunell goes 15-0.

You would still stay it was the wrong decision to pull Ramsey??

Wow, amazing logic.
