Zorn says no on Cutler, talks Haynesworth, Hall and '09 hopes

Pretty solid interview with Mark Maske from the Post.. A couple of key excerpts-

Zorn said at this morning's NFC coaches' breakfast at the annual league meeting that the Redskins are not among the teams that have expressed interest in Cutler to the Broncos.

Zorn said he has not felt the need to reassure his own quarterback, Jason Campbell, that the Redskins are committed to him. Asked if he has spoken to Campbell about the reports of the Redskins' interest in Cutler, Zorn said: "Not specifically."

But Zorn said he's made it clear to Campbell that the club is committed to him as its starter.

I think if you personally would go and look at his video, the things that he does--what he did last year, what he's done in his past--he really does create problems in several areas.

I think one of the big signing for us was DeAngelo Hall, and he goes right along with Albert because of his ability to play man coverage. I think getting him allows us to continue to play man coverage when we want to because that's part of our game. And I think he's going to excel this year as well.

"I thought we could win it last year. I think every coach goes into a season, especially in the beginning, and says, 'I think we can.' You're not injured. You feel great about yourself. You don't have a loss. You don't really know what you've got.... It's a dogfight [in the NFC East] for every inch of ground you're trying to defend and every inch of ground you're trying to get.

Can we kill the Cutler talk now?

No, we can't kill the Cutler talk now. A head coach lying about interest in a player -- UNPOSSIBLE. The NFL is full of smoke screens. If our FO got a decent chance at Cutler, I bet they'd make the move in a heart beat. Also, read his comments closely, no where did he say we wouldn't be interested in Cutler. He said we're not 'asking' about him.

I think the chances of us getting Cutler are slim -- but I don't think we're out of the picture by any stretch of the imagination.

I wouldn't blame you for doubting Redskins FO, but if you are right; we trade for Cutler with our picks (obviously we won't trade JC due to Zorn's comments).. Cutler then would be riding bench as #2 QB because Zorn basically said that JC is our starter..

I am sure Zorn meant JC is the starter over the other QB's currently on the roster. And besides if the unlikely Cutler trade took place then Campbell would either be traded as part of that deal or he would be shipped somewhere else in a seperate trade for a draft pick. They would never acquire Cutler to ride the bench and they would never ask Campbell to stay and ride the bench behind Cutler.

Zorn might meant that way, but I doubt it..

That's exactly what I'm trying to say.. I find it hard to believe that Redskins are willing to waste our picks, especially when we have pressing needs to fill in positions such as RT, DE and LB..

You're sure of that huh? And you're sure Zorn would lie if they were interested in Cutler? We're not talking about Vinny here. I think Zorn has learned not to go so in depth about questions because he's so honest and some things are better left unsaid, but he was asked a direct question and he didn't beat around the bush, he gave a direct answer. He didn't try to evade the question. I don't think he's a liar. I don't think his priorities are to put football first if you know what I mean. If that makes me gullible than I guess I'm gullible but I'm surely not jaded about Zorn because of the way Vinny does his job. But I guess I know Zorn about as well as you do, so who knows? I guess my perspective of the man is different than yours. I've seen no reason to doubt his word. Vinny? Yes. Zorn? Not from what I've seen so far.

I don't really doubt Zorn's word as much as I just don't believe he has much say in the matter. I think Zorn probably does believe that Campbell will be his QB so he's not lying by saying that. Vinny may still feel otherwise though.

The most damning quote to show Romo Jr's worshippers who cite the old conspiracy theory.
Quote:
If Vinny Cerrato and Dan Snyder came to you and asked if you were interested in pursuing Cutler, would you say yes?

"First of all, Vinny and Dan wouldn't come to me. We would always be together on an issue. I think every coach in the National Football League would go, 'Man, what is this all about? What if Denver approached us?' But that conversation hasn't gone anywhere except 'Monday Morning Quarterback' talk."

Re: Zorn says no on Cutler, talks Haynesworth, Hall and '09 hopes

One of my friends from school went to the Bahamas a while ago. Some 'Skins were there he said and a bunch of the younger guys were hangin out by the pool with coolatas, talking to girls.

He said he saw JC in a lawn chair reading a book.

One, i believe him. Two, I def believe the part about JC. I think he's that type of guy. Calm and collected, and a bit reserved. I like him and his presence in the locker room. I think if we pick up a top guard our Oline problems are patched up, and the offense averages 25 pts a game next season, esp with our defense keeping other offenses off the field.
