Seriously though, my understanding from speaking with some medical professionals, is that the 4-8 weeks is merely the time it takes for the ankle to look back to normal. But then that's around the time you can start rehabbing and using your ankle, getting the full range of motions, etc. And that process can take a few months.

I actually did break my ankle in high school (granted I was younger than Jansen) and I was back playing soccer on it in 7 weeks...and they had to force me to stay off the field cause I wanted to by week 5 or so.
Maybe I'm a quick healer, and maybe it was my age...but soccer requires your ankles more than football. At this point, I just don't see why it's a season long injury unless ligaments / tendons were snapped too.
