Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
I agree. Add some excitement to it. I like what Goodell is trying to do here.

The kick off is the most boring play in the game, not the PAT. |

Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
Eliminate the two point conversion and the kicking element.
Put the ball on the 10 for pass or run one point conversion. That would make or break a lot of games.

Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
I voted 'yes' they should consider eliminating the XP but I'd rather see them modify it by making it an actual play. Give teams the option to kick from the 18 yd line (35 yd FG) for one or run a play from the 3 yd line for two. Adds an element of strategy to each scoring play and execution so that it's not automatic.

And the PAT not useless; 2003 Saints and John Carney ring a bell with anyone? I believe that Saints fans everywhere remember that PAT very much. |

Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
I don't know why people keep calling the kick-off from the 35 yard line a new rule. It's not a new rule. It's simply a rule that was changed back from what it was before.
Anyway, as for the change on the PAT - I'm all for change. If you're going to leave the PAT where it's at, might as well just take on the seventh point when the TD is scored. It's practically the same thing. There's no drama or excitement on the PAT. It's impossible to block. At least, the PAT needs to be moved back enough to where it's not automatic. It needs to be earned. I'd say make it a 35 yard attempt. At least not less than a 30 yard attempt. Pretty much everything under 30 is automatic. That would put some drama in the PAT, and I don't think it would be such a change that those who hate change for change sake would be too upset over that. That way, if there happens to be an offensive penalty on the PAT, then it really puts them in danger of missing the point. I'd say either that or just go for two after every TD. And, while someone mentioned kick-offs, why not actually award 3 points to those kickers who manage to kick the ball through the uprights on the kick off. It does happen (maybe not often, but it does) and I think the kicker should be award for being able to do that. The other team would still get the ball placed at the 20 as if it were a touchback, but the kicker would get awarded for the kick-off going through the upright. Think about this: A team literally has a chance to go up by two scores before giving the ball back to the other team. That, then forces the other team to really step it up a notch if they're going to get back in the game.

Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
People act like Goodell is the only commish to have rule changes go into effect under his regime.
The game is constantly evolving. Always has, always will. |

Get off my lawn!!!! i think they need to change the way penalties by the defense on a PAT are tacked onto the kickoff since most kickoffs are already touchbacks, letting the kicker kick from the 40 instead of the 25 really doesnt change anything. or do they kick from the 30 now? whatever. |

either way, its part of the game. does an added excitement outweigh changing the game? i see it as taking away some excitement as it just takes away a football play. |

*Update* Only 11 of 34 kickers who attempted a FG this past season were perfect from less than 39 yards. Not a sure thing every time.
