Re: Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan
Well, I think it was a smear campaign in the sense that they took advantage of someone with a known problem and let it drag out and in many ways enabled it in order to expose him as the fall guy. They didn't provide help during the season, they didn't do anything when Cooley said what he said. They didn't protect him by being proactive about his absence from the combine.

Re: Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan
Doesn't really matter anymore, the deed is done. Question should now be do they hire a new GM or just let Bruce do everything like before. Idiots needed to trade Cousins as him asking to be traded let the cat out of the bag that he didn't want to be here. With PG and DJax gone, might as well get an extra first round pick out of the deal. Hard to cheer for a guy that you know would rather be elsewhere.

Re: Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan
Who cares at this point. The outcome was rather obvious as this crap has been going on for a couple weeks. There was a difference of opinion and Scot hung himself with the booze, just like his last two gigs. When the wifey tweeted that bit about the rings, including her wedding band, that told me that a lot of it was indeed personal. I hope the guy gets his life together and gets sober at this point. To be honest, I think he was a bit overhyped. This past draft really was mediocre, and if Doctson turns into Taylor Jacobs 2.0, then it would have sucked. Dwelling over a done deed is a waste of time. The handling of Kirk has been terrible. I just don't see him with us past 2017, and we might only get a 3rd rounder for him, when we could have had an additional first rounder this year. Too much bad blood out there now. Should just blow it up and get a new youngster.

I am torn. Was he consistently drinking or drunk on the job. He should be fired.
Was the ensuing pressure from the public enough that Bruce and Danny knew it was time to act? Even if the reasons weren't completely anove board? |

Re: Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan
Probably was indeed a power struggle of sorts, but the drinking had to be an issue

Re: Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan
Never got a clear answer. From what I gather he left Redskins Park on his own. And then was told not to bother coming to the combine. But that wasn't a last minute decision. He and the team knew for about a week that he wouldn't be at the combine. Even though they kept telling everyone he would

Re: Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan
Wondering if the last 18 months were a disaster, as Bruce is saying, was it indeed Bruce that has made the decisions? If so, they haven't been awful. ( minus the KC stuff, but that is complicated too) Is Bruce actually getting a bad rap??

In regards to the power struggle...mike Robinson (nfl and McC friend)said the first sign of struggle was Scott told him was he wasn't allowed to bring his own guys in when but during the hiring process he was told he would be allowed. Also it was made clear during the hiring process he would have entire final say over the roster, no questions asked. He actually never did. Lastly, in the redskins building there was clear lines drawn who could be trusted and who couldn't meaning(leaks, people reporting gossip back to Bruce/dan. ) and this went beyond typical NFL working organization. Thoughts?

I don't know man. I have said this before but if not for this web site I longer be a Skins fan. I am super ready to call it quits on this franchise. They honestly can't ever get anything right; its so frustrating.

Re: Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan
I think it speaks volumes about this organization that even the hardcore fans found on this site dont believe the stories and are totally fed-up. The sad thing is I dont think this organization cares.
When I look at the NFL, success starts from the top down and as long as DS is the owner this organization will never be successful. I totally agree with a previous poster, DS is the new Al Davis. |

Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan
It's a shame the Skins brought him in without a good support system, it was obvious from day one that he needed it, whether he admitted it or not.
It's also a shame that McCloughan can't get control of his demons. From all accounts he's one of the top personnel guys around, and a good guy to boot. Someone close to him needs to get him some help. And he needs to realize that he can't keep going like this. It's very disappointing how this leaked out. Smear campaigns are always so bush league. In the end both sides lose. As Schneed mentioned I can understand the hate towards Allen/Snyder, but I think this is a case where both parties let each other down. I wish Scot the best and hope he can bounce back stronger than ever. |
