His arm strength was never great but it never was part of his game even when he was a top QB anyways. I'd take a healthy Brunell over probably 24-25 other QBs in the league at least.

Buys I'd take over Brunell
Manning
Brady
McNabb
Culpepper
Green
Leftwhich
Palmer

Maybe Delhomme
Not sure I'd take Leftwich or Culpepper over Brunell. I'd probably take Hassleback over him though. Culpepper looked good when he had Moss. Not so goood w/o him. Leftwich is a good passer but still makes quite a few mistakes.

I feel like Palmer (if he returns to last year's form, which I think he will) would be the perfect QB for our team. But that will never happen.

Brunell made me eat some huge crow last year b/c he was healthy. I'd love to see him stay that way.

I couldn't leave this one alone...

You wouldn't take Byron Leftwich over Brunell? You would probably take Hasselback over him??? Let me guess, it is a tossup between Brunell and Peyton Manning.

The season needs to start soon. I am not even going to waste the energy on someone who makes statements like these.

You would take Byron Leftwich over Brunell? Obviously Byron has a lot of career ahead of him, but if you had to pick one to roll with this year, you'd take Byron? That's interesting.

Here are some guys I think could QB the 2006 Redskins better than Brunell:
Peyton Manning
Tom Brady
Carson Palmer
Ben Roethlisberger
Matt Hasselbeck
Marc Bulger

Other guys that could QB this team about as well as Brunell:
Trent Green
Brad Johnson
Jake Delhomme
Eli Manning
Kurt Warner
Steve McNair

There's going to be a dropoff after that. Guys who didnt make this list could be bad game managers, or products of system or whatever. Doesn't mean I think poorly of them as QBs. Just wouldn't want to see them on the Skins.

Glad your so energy efficient! The word "probably" can be a confusing one indeed. I don't see a huge gap between the performance of Brunell versus Hassleback, especially last year. Mark had very comparable stats (www.nfl.com is decent resource) even though he had a tougher strength of schedule, an injury, a ProBowl caliber lineman that went down with injury and only one wideout option. Matt had ...um...errr...well none of these problems. Having said all that, I still would probably take Matt over Mark just like I would probably wear a jacket outside when it's particularly cold.

I gotta hit you for this one, because I am the type that wastes energy on someone who makes statements like the one you just made.

What is so great about Byron Leftwich at this stage of his career? Maybe you were suggesting that we're better off with Byron Leftwich for the long haul than we are with Mark Brunell, and that I could understand. But I have no idea why that kind of thinking even enters the equation when our QB of the future is already sitting on our bench.

Look at last year's performance:
They both had completion % of 57%.
Brunell's QB rating was 86, Leftwich's was 89, about the same.
Brunell fumbled 10 times in 16 games, Leftwich fumbled 8 times in 11 games.
Interception/TD ratio was similar, Brunell was 23/10 and Leftwich was 15/5.

Their performance seems the same to me. And don't forget, Leftwich is coming off a broken ankle. It will likely be fine, but wouldn't you rather have Randy Thomas coming into this season without having to recover from a broken leg? I'd take Brunell for this season. He's not coming off major injury, he's got more experience, and he produces just like Leftwich.

I just don't get how you can suggest that you'd take Leftwich in a heartbeat over Brunell. The only way it makes sense is if you're taking him for the long haul.
