Re: Its a brand new season now
Wow, did we just play the Jacksonville Texans?
Someone said before the season it would take about 6 (regular-season?) games before the offense was used to Saunders's playbook. We're ahead of schedule. Last week CP came back to the game. But, just as important, (and probably associated with it), we got the short passing plays in rhythm. In addition, Brunell got the feel for this offense. This week the mid-range passes as well as the OLine have started to come together. In addition, this is when the running game really started to look good. (Few penalties, better "opponent-adjusted" yards.) Assuming this wasn't done with smoke and mirrors, our offense has shown the ability to move down the field and get points. What about the D? As long as Springs is out I think it is suspect. I see him coming back no later than the 8th game of the season. Which leads to an attempted analysis of the rest of the year. Next week will be impacted greatly by which Giant team shows up. All things considered, I'd say it's a toss-up. Next is the Titans, which should be a win. After that, Indy, which will be tough, with or without Springs. So we probably come out of game 7 at 4&3 or 3&4. But then, with Springs back, we should have both units playing well. In our last 9 games our away games are: Philly, Tampa Bay, New Orleans, St Louis. We should win (at least) 3 out of 4. (They're all winnable.) And we should win our 5 remaining home games. Allowing for one bad game in our last 9, we should be 7&2 in the last 9 games. So I figure we won't be too good after 7 games, but we will have a strong comeback and finish up with 10 or 11 wins. Just throwing this out while in "glow" mode after the game today. Feel free to differ. This is just to get things started. |
