Re: I'm offering an official apology here...

I love Sean Taylor as a football player. A lot. And he is nowhere close to a Pacman Jones. But ST spitting in an opposing player's face (on more than one occasion) really makes me sick. Next to smacking a woman, spitting in the face of another man is about as despicable an act as I can think of. Sure it's not an off-field transgression, but pretty awful nonetheless.

what about grabbing a guys nuts, pinching his inner thigh skin, biting, scratching, punching, elbowing ribs..etc. If you've ever been in the bottom or middle of a pile, all this shit goes down including the spitting. Football is a rough sport for rough guys. spitting happens ALL the time. just ask anyone who has played. Bottom line is, it never really bothered me.

I played football for 11 years, so I know all about the dirty stuff. But if spitting in someone's face is so common, then how come it's such a big deal when it happens? When Housh accused ST it was a big news, and then Taylor got fined $15K when he did it against the Bucs in the playoffs. Remember when Romanowski spit in JJ Stokes' face? He got ridiculed big time. Spitting in a guys face isn't as common as you think. I got elbowed and punched a few times in piles, but never had my nuts grabbed (you're an idiot if you're not wearing a cup to begin with), was never bitten (facemasks make that kind of hard), and never spit on.

Trust me, if this kind of stuff went on all the time at the bottom of the pile, players would get caught a lot more often, and called out by other players a lot more often.

Ok. I appreciate your experience. It still really doesn't bother me.

I think the difference is in the middle of a scrum, as opposed to just standing face to face with someone. You grab someone's junk in the bottom of a pile while trying to go for the football, ok well that's kind of odd bur par for the course in that situation. You do that while just standing there talking to someone then that's a whole other story.

I personally think the fans and the media are more agitated by the spitting incident than the players themselves.

For the most part, I think, players in the NFL think Taylor is a fierce competitor that plays hard. At the time his immaturity simply got the best of him. That's it.
