I don't know enough about "the secret" to really comment. I don't believe that I can just simply meditate on something hard enough to make it manifest itself in my life. God has a purpose and plan for me. My plans may not always be a part of His plans and I think that's a good thing.

I think it's arrogant to say you have complete control over your life. If that's the case, then there is no need for God. The only control you have is how you react to adversity in your life. Attitude is a huge thing. My motto has always been you reap what you sow.
God only uses your hands. You can reject His plans, or go with it.
I think it's irresponsible to think you don't have any control over your life.
You last comment puzzles me though...if you reap what you sow, then you have control over your life. Your actions have consequences.
Anywho, I believe God is everywhere and is always listening to us, so why not tell him what you want? Oddly enough, when I pray in my head, things don't ever, and I mean ever work out. But when I pray outloud I see results. That just may be a coincidence, but I find that the secret taps on that thought.

I just don't buy into the whole law of attraction idea. I rely on God to guide me when making big decisions in my life. I seek Him for answers. He is the author and finisher of my faith, not "the universe". As far as who has the control over my life, He does. I don't see God as someone who's just sitting around waiting to fulfill every whim and wish that pops into my head.

Here's a question. When you want something really bad and you don't receive it, who's fault is it that your request wasn't granted? Was it because you didn't put out enough positive vibes or is it because God didn't feel it was in your best interest to answer that particular prayer at that time? Meditating on what you want strongly enough and expecting to get it is like saying that you can will God into giving you whatever you want. The first question you always have to ask is "what does God want for my life." Seek ye first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you. I have no problem asking God for things. He says we have not, because we ask not. That still doesn't mean He will give me everything I ask for.

As far as the reaping what you sow goes, it still goes back to God and His influence in my life. If someone mistreats me, what do I draw upon to determine what my response should be? His word tells me what my response should be. Finances? Relationships? Follow His word. If I choose to go against that then I run the risk of not reaping the benefits I would have received if I had chosen His will in the first place.

Again, why can't you see that it could be God?
No one is saying He will give you whatever you want....or that you will get whatever you want with "the secret". You can ask for some pretty crazy things...like I want to have sex with Jessica Beil and Jessica Alba at the same time, and I want my wife to give me full blessing to do it...do you think that will happen? Hell no.
I have learned that there are a million things in this world that you can not explain and that make no sense. You use 3-7% of your brain capacity, so what is the other 93-97% doing? There are things going on beyond my comprehension, and I'd be selling myself short if I didn't beleive that God is capable of ALL things.
About "willing" God to do something. When you pray you are asking for Him for things, He will choose whether you get those or not. If you think positively (no meditation involved by the way) and ask for it, you are still doing the same thing...I actually see this as very similar to prayer, it's just outwardly verbal.

Re: The Never Ending Thread

Alright, I have a question for you guys:

What area would you be more interested in moving to with these scenarios:
1- Brunswick, GA. My wife and I are very good friends with some people that just moved (enroute) to Brunswick, GA. They have been begging us to move with them, but there aren't a lot of jobs in that area. It's a great area though, by the ocean, which I miss very much. He works as an ICE agent, just left the border patrol after 23 years. She is going to get back into real estate and has talked me into going into business with her under E&S realty. (Everly / Sarno realty).
2- Denver, CO (area). My buddy Ed moved up there a few weeks ago, and he loves it. It has been my focus of attention for years to move there. I love the idea of the city. I love and miss the 4 seasons, and I love the outdoor activities that that area can give me, including the 4 major sports they have. We would have absolutely no family there and Ed, while he's a great guy, can be very attaching. We would have no safety net or help if something happened and we didn't make it. This is the only place where we wouldn't have a safety net. It's fairly close (8-9 hour drive from here) which makes relocation much easier.
3- Huntsville, AL. My best friend since I was 4 just got a job there to take over a business that his uncle runs. It's a multi million dollar business and they contract through NASA. There is no guarentee for me to join that business right now, but eventually Kenny will get me in and we'll work together. Could be 2-5 years from now though. It's also in hicksville central. I don't mean to be offensive, but being from Boston, I may not be very liked down there. It's a couple hours from Atlanta, so I imagine it's one of the hottest and most humid places in America. I prefer cool tempatures, and I am one of the few people in the world that actually likes cold weather. People say it's cold under 60...to me cold is 10-30 degrees. If it's 40-60 it's mild. If it's 60-70 it's indoor weather, and if it's 75-85 it's hot, and 85-95 is damn hot, and 95-115 is HELL. (ps- yes, it's over 100 degrees here every day)
4- Phoenix, AZ. (keep in mind my weather argument ealier) This is only being considered because my wife's sister and brother in law live there (they moved from Seattle to Phoenix about 6 months ago) and they have been lobbying to get us there ever since. Her parents actually just this past week put money down on a home in a 55 and older community, so they will be moving there after they retire here. Again, I like the fact that there are 4 major sports there (if you can consider the Cards a major team lol). The heat is definitely a deterant.

Anywho, I am just curious as to what you guys think?

Damn, you must really enjoy the heat because all of those places minus one are all only 10 degrees cooler than hell!

I don't enjoy it at all, but I am looking at places where I am wanted or I want to go.
Of course my family wants me to go back to Boston, but I am not going to spend from 500k-750k for a house, and an average one at that.

Go ahead and make that early retirement move to Florida. No State Taxes.

I would say Phoenix of Denver. I mean aren't you leaving Carlsbad because you're bored there? How would not be just as bored in Huntsville or Brunswick?
