Also... Snyder wouldn't go with him as HC, because if we have a good season under him, how would he explain firing him after one successful season for Cowher? and I should say... I don't like any of this theory personally... if we wanted to go "young" and "fresh", then Snyder would have waited to go hard after McDaniels from the Patriots for OC and Spagnulo from the Giants for DC. Zorn and Blache are not young, fresh guys. I truly think that there is a fairly decent possibility that Cowher will be courted after this year...

Why are we waiting until after the SuperBowl to hire a HC, could we be considering one of these guys perhaps? And if we are, is this not a youth movement? And would Snyder plausibly give up on the "youngster" after just one year? My point: There are alot of holes in your argument. Anything could happen of course, including Cowher next year (though I doubt it), but the reasons you've used to argue make no sense. |

Let me explain what I meant was that I don't see what's going on a "youth" or "fresh" movement... After posting it, I realized that those 2 wouldn't take lateral movements anyway, but I was just trying to get at the fact that I don't think the idea right now is "long term" ... I think there is a strong possibility that the idea is what do we do with 2008 until Cowher is available? and Second... More than one reputable source said that there was a guarantee in GW's contract... although now, 3 years later, for the first time someone said that wasn't true.

Re: My New "It All Makes Sense" Theory
So you're saying there was a guarantee and suddenly it went away? You're saying that Williams had a guarantee to be named coach as soon as Gibbs stepped down?

I'm just saying that that is what I remember hearing when he first was signed and heard it throughout his time here.... no one ever disputed it until this passed week.
I don't know if there was one or not, I just always heard ... from articles... that this was the case.

Re: My New "It All Makes Sense" Theory
Just wanted to add some fresh information that adds to my suspicion that 2008 is a stop-gap to Cowher for Dan Snyder.
When reporters first spoke about Jim Zorn, I read this... "After flying to Washington and interviewing with owner Daniel Snyder at his home, Zorn was expected to talk last night with Seahawks officials, who want to keep him on their staff. The Seahawks could promise to give him their offensive coordinator job when Coach Mike Holmgren retires, possibly after next season. That might be enough to persuade Zorn, a former Seahawks quarterback and a legendary figure in the city, to join fellow Seattle assistant Jim Mora in withdrawing his name from Redskins consideration." And now I read this about Blache tonight... "Blache this season repeatedly told colleagues he had no interest in another promotion and that he didn't plan to coach much longer, sources said, but owner Dan Snyder persuaded Blache to take on more responsibility." This is where my theory starts... these two quotes... eventhough I had not heard this about Blache before...

Re: My New "It All Makes Sense" Theory
I think there was a verbal one with Snyder and Gibbs. I also believe that Williams cameback instead of taking Head Coaching jobs because of this verbal agreement and he wanted to help Gibbs bring a title back to DC. The problem is Gregg thought with Gibbs backing on this that Snyder would hold true and hire Gregg as head coach. I believe Snyder went back on his word. This might not be true but this is my take from everything we have heard since the "Gregg Williams leaving" rumors started after the 2004 season.
