Re: Tyree Catch Greatest Clutch Catch in SB?
Absolutely. The throw and the catch has got to be the most amazing play in recent Super Bowl history.
I don't know how anyone can call that game a "snoozer." I couldn't believe how hard I ended up cheering for the Giants - with the obvious exception of the Skins' games I say that was the best Super Bowl I've ever seen.

Re: Tyree Catch Greatest Clutch Catch in SB?
The game was definitely far from being a snoozer. It was a top 5 Super Bowl no doubt.

Re: Tyree Catch Greatest Clutch Catch in SB?
In the final minutes of a SB to pull off that scramble, then the pass and unreal catch. That kept the drive alive, they end up scoring the go ahead TD.
That will IMO go down as one of the all time greats in the clutch, not to mention the underdog factor.

Re: Best play in the Super Bowl all time???
Riggo's run was perfect execution at the crucial moment, but Manning's escape and Tyree's circus catch yesterday have my vote for greatest play in Super Bowl history.

It was a great play but I think we have to wait for the dust to settle a bit before we crown it the best ever.

Re: Tyree Catch Greatest Clutch Catch in SB?
In live time, I thought for sure that the play would warrant a challenge of Tyree trapping the ball on the ground before clutching it with two hands, but in super slow-mo, it was absolutely remarkable that he could hold pin the ball against his helmet with Harrison tugging at his arm, and he somehow got that second hand solidly on the ball. Just incredible concentration, where he cannot even see the ball at that point.

Re: Tyree Catch Greatest Clutch Catch in SB?
That was the modern day "the catch". They did that on 3rd and 10ish. They do not win the Super Bowl without that fortunate no sack and catch.
Great play and probably won't get the credit it deserves as being a prolific Super Bowl play.

Re: Tyree Catch Greatest Clutch Catch in SB?
It was an awesome sight to watch Eli come out of that pile and throw it, then you have Tyree make such an acrobatic catch with Harrison all over his back. Definitely greatest clutch catch, not sure greatest play though...

Re: Tyree Catch Greatest Clutch Catch in SB?
Maybe Tyree deserves to be in the Hall of Fame? He now has a disinguishable-trademark catch, he must be HOF worthy. Swann got in easily w/ his!!
One last jab to the HOF voters taking so long to get Monk in. Swann got in easily...Monk waits 8 years... |

Re: Tyree Catch Greatest Clutch Catch in SB?
This catch will remember along with the Montana to Clark catch to beat the Cowboys in the playoffs. Actually, this one was more meaningful cause they beat the so called "best team ever".

Re: Tyree Catch Greatest Clutch Catch in SB?
Not sure if history will judge it that way or not. In Superbowl history, I can only think of one non-TD catch that is a consistent highlight film - Swann's acrobatic catch over Dallas. While Tyree's catch was certainly clutch and, if it had been made by Plaxico, would cement it's importance and possibly (as it did with Swann) gain him HOF notice.
I am not sure that enough factors coalace for the catch to be considered historic. Close but not quite, mainly b/c it was made by someone who will always be a footnote in SB history. For example, although not a SB moment, "The Catch" is historic b/c: a) It was a great play; b) it scored a touchdown; c) It was thrown by Joe Montana (not b/c it was caught by John Taylor) and d) it ushered in a new dynasty while marking the exit of an old one. Of these "historic" like qualities, Tyree's catch has only one of these factors: It was a phenomenal play. In the years to come, Eli may achieve HOF potential (God I hope not) and that drive may end up being a turning point in his career and could be the beginning of the end for the Patriots (I doubt it). In which case, it may become "historic" as part of Eli's legacy. Otherwise, I just see it as one of the multitude of great plays that have occurred in Super Bowls and which one expects to see in championship games. When you get the two best teams on the field, you expect magic. Not all such magic that occurs, however, is historic.

The Catch was great, but I thought The Escape was better.

Re: Tyree Catch Greatest Clutch Catch in SB?
Football already has "The Catch". It does not yet have "The Escape".

That's a really good one. But what about the catch part?
