come on its as plan as day..he announces retirement a day after moss signs with patriots. I believe Farve is an emotional guy who isn't really thinking clearly right now and if i was him i'd be upset too. I would want any help i can get to secure my legacy and win. The packers did good last season but they played well over their head and i believe he knew that, which is the reason he pressed for Moss. Like Smoot also mentioned its fun to play on Sundays but what about Monday thru Saturday? Maybe that played a small part, maybe not being with his family. But at the end of the day Brett is a winner. If he feels he doesn't have the best chance then he won't fool himself.

Actually it's not at all for him.
There has been several comments on ESPN about it, and even Mortenson said it's not likely the major reason he's retiring, but it is a reason. Favre knew he wasn't going to get anyone in FA to help, and he likely wanted to "stack the deck" to make a run, but the packers weren't willing to do that.

I am going to miss that guy, I loved the way he played, and loved to watch him every week. He was a giant kid on the field and the toughest qb of all time bar none. It's a dark day for football today people.

okay Madden you think he left because? He only lobby for Moss last week and now that he signed with NE he retired the next day. Why we he ask for Moss one week and retire the next when he didn't get him?

I think he left because he played for 17 years and had the chance to go out on a winning season, having gotten his team to the NFC Championship game. Like Matty said, his retirement has been an issue for what, 3 years now? I sincerely doubt that anyone with half a brain in their head makes the decision to end their hall of fame career based upon the location of one Randy Moss. As many have already said, the packers are already much better than average in the receiver dept. This is just fodder for sports talk and columnists who don't have anything of substance to report.

I agree.

When you look at his career, what else did he have to prove? I think in his mind he proved all of his doubters of the last 2-3 years wrong, he got his team to the NFC Championship, he had one hell of a season, and he's just mentally spent. All of the conspiracy theories are fun to talk about, but in the end the most logical reasons for his decision makes the most sense.
