I feel like he seems like he's such a great runner only because he doesn't get that many carries a game. He typically came in to deliever the knockout punch after the D had been pounded a bit. If his coaches really thought that he could have kept that sort of thing up for the whole game I'm sure they would have told JJ to hit the bench a lot sooner.

The bolded point really isn't true, necessarily. He did play a lot of third downs, but the carries between him and JJ were split pretty equally throughout the season, and not really in any particular situation.

What has yet to be seen is what age/increased workload might do to his effectiveness. He's going to start this year and see 60-70 percent of the touches, so if he holds up this year he can silence all the doubters.

Why do people think this guy is such an injury risk? Why are there so many "doubters?" He had no injury issues at Minnesota, and has played in all but 3 games as a pro. And the 3 games he missed were the first 3 of his rookie season. He's a young 24 due to his lack of mileage.

I see no reason for anyone to doubt his durability. He may get more carries this year, but will still share time with Felix Jones.

I think it's because of his high contact running style. Backs like that don't always hold up well over the course of a full season.

I suppose. But he's had the same running style dating back to college and hasn't had any serious injuries.

The thing I don't understand is there has been no indication that Barber will be the full time RB. Felix Jones has blazing fast vertical speed and is a home run threat every time he gets the ball. He'll be in the mix from the start. I'm sure Barber's carries will go up 10-15% over last year, but that's no big deal.

I don't see him being the featured back either.

Not many people thought Payton would last 5 years , " he never avoids contact " , too small too run that hard , never runs out of bounds , ect. He only retired as the NFL's all time leading rusher .If Barber can avoid taking a shot to his knee , he could be a damn good back for years ,,,, as long as he is in D , I hope he wears down in December each year . No , I'am NOT saying Barber is ever going to be Payton , he just happens to run " angry " as Payton did .
