Welcome to the Warpath PretzelBoy. I don't think I've ever seen that kind of honesty from a player involving his paycheck. Refreshing. And sadly true.

For those of you unfamiliar with Turdsworth, let me recount some of his wonderful deeds:

In college, at the University of Tennessee, Turdsworth fought with a teammate. It doesn't end there. He left practice, got a long pole, and returned to practice looking for his "teammate." I don't think he was looking to resolve his differences with his teammate in a dignified manner by jousting.

During Titans training camp, Turdsworth got into a tussle with "teammate" Justin Hartwig, kicked Hartwig in the chest, and had to be restrained by teammates.

During the now infamous Titans-Cowboys game, Turdsworth stomped on Cowboys' center Andre Gurode's face. Gurode needed 30 stitches and Haynesworth narrowly missed Gurode's eye. According to some, Turdsworth actually removed Gurode's helmet and then stomped on Gurode's face. To top it off, when Turdsworth was led off the field, he was yelling at his coach Jeff Fischer for God knows what.

To top it off, Turdsworth has a reputation of being an immensely talented underachiever who didn't produce at a very high level until his contract was about up. His stats back up that reputation. During his first 5 years in the league, Turdsworth averaged less than 2 sacks per season. In the final year of his rookie deal, he racked up contract year, he more than truppled his sack production with 6 sacks. This year, he's got 8.5 sacks.

In my view, the risk of Turdsworth turning out to be a free agent bust is pretty high. But even if he turns out to be an excellent player for some team, we could probably have two guys like Karlos Dansby and Dunta Robinson for the same price. In short, he's not worth the risk or the price.

This is the kind of stuff that bothers me. Guys that play pretty good until their contract year, and then play like a monster. I think guys like this have a tendancy to settle back down after they get the money they were looking for. Another good point is he will probably end up getting around 10 mil a year. As Sheriff pointed out, we could probably get 2 good young players for the price we would have to pay him. He would'nt be the first player to get a huge deal after a great year and then return to the way he was playing before his contract year. Remember, he was'nt the DOMINANT player everybodys talking about until it was time to cash in. The last thing we need is another high-priced underachiever. Any team that signs him will be taking that chance. If it worked out, great, if not, how much more aggravation can we take?

Re: OK... Let the Haynesworth Petition Begin!

no!
this is the classic fa mistake that JLC points out; you sign big $ fa's if your on the verge & they can peek w/the rest of your team. This team is far from that. So what if our D is top 5 statistically; we've all seen it decline recently & there is age at crucial positions. This signing would just take too much $. Not only that, I agree w/those here that question his motivation, work ethic, etc. Pay him & he might be a relative bust.

Im all for drafting a DT if we do it in the first round. If we draft a OLineman overall then i think we need to make the free agent splash.

I agree they should grab an offensive lineman and defensive lineman in the draft and also during free agency.

Unfortunately Sheriff brings up a good point. In retrospect bringing in Haynesworth probably isn't the best idea. With that said maybe the best strategy for us during the offseason would be to bring in the top two Panthers (Gross and Peppers) then proceed to draft a DT like Terrance Cody. Either way getting those three players would go a long way towards taking care of our problems up front.

I keep reading how bad the FO is, because of this bust, or these bad trades, but then free agency appears, and suddenly the best move is grabbing the biggest named player regardless of what the cost. Let's not kid ourselves, if they went and did get Haynesworth, this board would be filled with praise, until the first game he laid an egg, at which point the FO would have been stupid for slamming our salary cap with an expensive and non-producing veteran.
There is no definseive lineman on our roster at his caliber. No one this roster who grow to his talent caliber, He is a franchise caliber talent. That is irrefutable, if it wasn't the case he would not have been on the Titans for so long. You should have a mean streak as a lineman. Most say "he may underachieve" or "he takes plays off" they say that about all Fat players in the NFL. They said the Same about Shaun Rodgers last year and now he looks unstoppable this year.

People don't say Pat Williams or Jamal Williams underachieve. People say Rogers and Haynesworth underachieve until it is time for them to earn a paycheck.

Even if we kept the same pass rush as this year, with hanesworth anchoring the middle the sack total would got up exponentially

What he said!

Then to everyone out there, that dont want Haynesworth.....dont Bitch, don't sit here a blame, Vinny or Danny, and no one wants to hear your whinning, about we are not that good up the middle, the truth is, Haynesworth, is an elite player, we haven't brought in any elite players, has beens, and washed up, he make Carter look like an elite DE, even Taylor if he stays, our Corners get better shots at the ball.....IE, look at their CB, there is a bunch of no names there and because he gets the push up the middle, is why they are jumping routes, I say bid for him, cut the old baggage, (springs, smoot, ARE, Washington, Griffin, maybe even trade Moss in a package with one of the guys that need to be cut loose. get mor Draft picks, put him next to Montgomery, we can then draft more on the Offense side of the line, a couple of OLB. we make our team top 5 with Haynesworth.

Huh? How is Haynesworth going to make the Redskins a top 5 team? Does he play offensive tackle too?

I didn't understand anything but the last phrase of the post. That sentence "ran on" like Forrest Gump.
