Re: This Will Be Fun To Watch Pelosi Says CIA Lied

Even if she is lying, which will be pretty hard to prove, I still don't think her Speakership (is that correct?) is in jeopardy. Pelosi didn't torture anyone, didn't directly authorize any acts of torture, and hasn't committed any acts of treason that we're aware of. At best she stuck her foot in her mouth and probably should have just shut the hell up and let this play out like most smart pols on both sides.

The people that are the most outspoken on this issue, besides the media, are Newt and Cheney. Neither of which currently hold a public office and have nothing to very little at risk politically. Even the White House is trying to move on from this.

The more this issue get's volleyed back and forth it will be perceived as nothing more than attacks for political gain. And in that sense I think Pelosi's job is safe.

It the dems who called for the investigation and the possibility of bring charges up against people who gave the OK to waterboard. On top of that Pelosi was ranking member of the Intelligence Committee when all this happened. Either she is lying or she was not doing her job at the time this occured.

Well what Dems are you talking about? Certainly not all of them. And there are some Republicans who feel the same way. And though they aren't actively pushing for an investigation some are on record saying, if laws were broken there should be some legal recourse.

Look, this is messy and people are very conflicted on both sides. Is torture wrong, of course it is. Did people feel it was so wrong and immoral following 9/11, probably not. And that's not being discusssed as much in the national media. The mood of the country was different then than it is right now. At the moment there's still this anti-Bush sentiment in the air and Dems are feeling themselves (my momma used to use that term, still don't what it means) following Obama's win.

I just think it will be difficult, though not impossible, for Pelosi to get ousted over what amounts to he said, she said, what I meant to say. Especially given some credibiltiy issues within the Agency itself and now Bob Graham, former Chair of the Intel Committee, also disputing these briefings.

Anyway, back to Miss California. Oh wait, Pelosi is from California.

Pelosi her self was pushing for the truth investigation and thats how all of this got started. I agree with you that right after 9/11 the American people would have just about given the OK to do just about anything. I personaly don't think it is torture but thats my opinion and I respect other who feel differently.
