Re: Gray, Smith likely interim coach choices
It's not Snyder's football acumen that I detest - I am with Smoot (I think) in that I believe our talent aquisition has not been that bad with the glaring example of the OLine.
It's Snyder's favoritism and pettiness that I think muddle the pie. If I'm the new coach, I would say - "Mr. Snyder, if I find my guys hanging out with you, calling you, or in any way interacting with you in a way I have not approved, I will cut them. Then you can pal around with them all you like. I don't care if its the QB you personally recruited during the FA signing period. Consider it a 'non-fraternization policy'. You want to speak to the team on occasion - hey fine as long as it is to the ENTIRE team and not just one or two guys." Obviously, Snyder would never go for that.

The favoritism element is not exclusive to the Redskins. So I don't expect that would change. What we really need is more restraint. I think Snyder (and I mentioned this in another thread) will do whatever it takes to get whoever he wants, Vinny wants, Zorn wants, Blache wants, Bugel wants, Gibbs wants, Saunders wants, and so on. And to an extent that's great, you want an owner who will not hesitate to get you what you need. At the same time though, someone has to be the "dad" here and be the disciplinarian. Then maybe this time next year we wouldn't be wondering how come Campbell, Duckett, Taylor, and Lloyd aren't here anymore...and neither are a first, second, three thirds, and fourth and a sixth

Re: Gray, Smith likely interim coach choices
I recognize there is some favoritism by owners. I mean, they spend millions of dollars on these teams and one of the perks seems to be hanging with the players. It just seems that, with DS, some of the players are given elevated status b/c they have the ear of the owner (clearly, this was also true of M. Vick). I suppose I would not be surprised that other owners have their "favorites" who coaches must treat differently for fear of the owner. Are there also owners (other than Crazy Al in Oakland) who are also play "unfavorites" the way Danny does?

If the owner is going to be involved, he needs to be completely emotionless and detacted from outcomes. It's right for the coaches to be livid, the fans to be livid, even the G.M. for a few minutes before getting back to work. The owner can not be so attached to winning and losing without compromising his decision making. And given the quality of Snyder's decision making over the years, I'd argue he's been quite compromised. A good owner responds to winning and losing exactly the same way, by trying to make his investment better in the long-run. Snyder of all people should not be riding the emotional roller coaster of the season. At the end of the day, that's Jerry Jones' biggest flaw.
