They're in the Super Bowl. I doubt they fire their staff.

I'm not sure what metrics are used to judge a strength and conditioning staff. I mean, a big part of it has to do with the players' willingness to train hard. I don't think season ending injuries are the fault of s/c coaches. I do know that the past two seasons we didn't have nearly as many of the strains/pulls we dealt with during Gibbs' 2.0.

I know a couple of guys who were on this staff the past few years, so obviously I'm biased here.
I agree with those players, but doesn't it seem like every year we have players sitting out multiple games with minor injuries. I may be totally off base but it just never seems like the skins are in the type of physical condition of other teams. While a lot of that has to do with an individual players attitude toward doing the work I think a lot of it has to fall on the strength coaches, I say good move.

I hope he gets the best out of DT, MK & MM they have the potential but didn't have the coaching.

I would stress 'decent' for McCardell but if we are getting a rookie WR coach then we might as well get the greatest : Art Monk! He will gain instant respect in the locker room.

I think it's already set up now but Monk would be a great choice tho

Re: Coaching Staff update

I'll be the Debbie Downer....

During Gibbs tenure we went out and picked up a "College" WR coach. As I see it he failed. Never developed anyone.

Now we are going to hire an "Ex-WR"? One that has never coached in the NFL? and if I'm not mistaken one in which always had issues where ever he went? We might as well have hired T.O. as WR coach. I for some reason don't see the Skins having much change in this area and this area was the second major need of change. A bonified WR coach to develope these talented WR's we have. I guess the good news is he's young.

Maybe if anything McCardell actually acts like a team player for a change on the coaching staff and realizes how difficult he made it on his coach's. Hell maybe he can relate.....especially to Brandon Marshall if brought on board.

I just hope he learned something while at the Giants coaching camp.

Man look at how ugly these pro bowl jerseys were. Can't believe this was only 10 years ago. Who thought these were a good idea?

Hopefully McCardell can help them graduate to the next level.

Re: Coaching Staff update

I always wonder how much coaching really comes into play with recievers... not a perfect example, but when I was in HS and played Lacrosse, my coach never really spent much time with me. This was because I had above average physical ability and a good feel for the game. I was selected to 2 all conf teams in my junior and senior year from just learning what i could the first couple years I played and continued practice. Had he spent more time with me, would I have gotten better, I think so... but would it have been the difference from me going pro or just being a great HS player, I doubt it.

Re: Coaching Staff update

I think you have to place most of the blame directly on Thomas and Kelly for their rookie struggles. They clearly were not ready for the NFL mentally or physically speaking.

If a young rookie is not ready, then it is the WR coach's responsibility to identify that and get them ready. I am glad that the days of discussing Hixon's uselessness are finally behind us.

Re: Coaching Staff update

The McCardell hire seems a strange one to me.

As far as I can tell he has no coaching experience apart from the East-West game.

In England, to be a soccer coach you have to pass exams before you can take a job. Is it the same in football or can you just retire one day and take up coaching the next without any training?

To a degree yes, but a coach can't be with these guys 24/7. These 2 admitted to playing Mario Kart in their free time instead of studying their playbooks. At some point personal responsibility has to come in to play.
