Re: How About Jermon Bushrod for a Second Rounder
If we did go after him, I definitely would put him at RT. If you can't let your LT lock up one on one consistently with the top pass rushers in this league, you've got a problem.

Re: How About Jermon Bushrod for a Second Rounder
I agree with your posts in this thread; Bushrod could even barely handle Freeney (with the foot injury) in the Super Bowl game.. I would prefer to spend the 2nd pick on Charles Brown or whoever else is available..

If I was to bet on it, I would think that the top pass rushers will make Brown, Okung, Davis and any other rookie look bad out of the gate. |

Although I can't help but wonder why Saints are trying to shopping him around? Why wouldn't they want to keep him as back-up, just in case if Jammall Brown or RT (I don't remember who) goes down? |

I would rather keep the 2nd pick too. |

Re: How About Jermon Bushrod for a Second Rounder
There will be value in the second round if we're looking at acquiring another lineman at that spot. Allen won't be long on trading away draft choices when we could get value where we are and wouldn't have to surrender a draft pick for another teams player. The days of trading away draft pick could be history.

Re: How About Jermon Bushrod for a Second Rounder
So much about 2011 is still uncertain yet, and a 2nd round tender for Bushrod would not be conditional unless a deal was consumated to that effect. Anything less than an arranged agreement would require a 2nd rounder in the 2010 draft. If it's linemen we'll be lookinfg for in 2011 there may be a better player than Bushrod available to us at that time. I've just never been one in favor of trading away draft picks, they're the closest thing to gold in today's NFL.

Reference: Compensation RFA Tenders A restricted free agent can negotiate with any club through a certain date. If the RFA accepts an offer sheet from a new club, his old club has a "right of first refusal"...a seven day period in which it may match the offer and retain him, or choose not to match the offer in which case it may recieve one or more draft picks "from the upcoming draft" from the players new club. If an offer sheet is not executed the players rights revert back to his old club the day after negotiations must end. That does not mean that a deal cannot be consumated requiring any combination of players in exchange, but such deal must be worked out in advance between the two parties. |

Re: How About Jermon Bushrod for a Second Rounder
That is a 101% true statement. You have to have more faith in your LT than any other position on the field. This guy would fit in as a candidate to compete with whatever rookie we draft after Okung for the starting RT position, and with Dockery and Rabach, and bring in Sims over from Seattle, and you have yourself a very quality offensive line. I am sure whoever is behind center this year will be better protected, no matter who we bring in this year. Shanny always has good lines.
